A friend has the camera and is still on the learning curve. He emailed this, and, since I don't have one myself, could anyone answer me (him)? thanks, all!

What I'd really like to figure out, and maybe it isn't possible, is how, like on a Canon or Nikon, to press the shutter half way to lock in focus and exposure, keep holding it down, compose the image, then press the shutter the rest of the way.

Set the camera to 'Autofocus single' mode; it's addressed on page 54 of the user manual (e.g. found here: https://cdn.hasselblad.com/manuals/X2D-100C-User-Manual/User_Manual/X2D_100C_User_Manual_v1_EN.pdf)

Or see here: https://www.hasselbladdigitalforum.com/index.php?topic=8200.0 reply #6:
The most important "setting" is to remember that if you are used to shooting using Back-button Auto-focus on your mirrorless this is implemented differently by Hasselblad.

Selected Manual Focus, then move the AF point to where you want your subject/point of focus to be, then press the AF-D button on the back of the camera. This actuates a AF-S (single focussing movement). You can then recompose or just press the shutter button -- but please remember like ALL other Hasselblad cameras the X2D does not have continuous AF YET - so set your aperture to give you enough DOF-tolerance if you are handheld or your subject is not very still.
