can anyone recommend (from experience) a company for Hasselbad servicing/repairs? I am about 40 miles north of London.

I'd like to get some of my kit checked/adjusted etc, depending on cost.

I normally go to a very helpful man in Bletchley near Milton Keynes, but he doesn't do Hasselblads.

My "usual suspects" would be Black on White (John Quantick) in Bristol, NewtonEliis in Liverpool, and ApertureUK in London - I was just looking at the latter and I think their Hasselblad specialists are now called "The Museum Shop".

As I recall, John Q has a fixed price for work on Hasselblad bodies, backs and lenses.

There was a guy who made himself known on here as an ex-Hasselblad engineer who would do services and whatnot, but he never answered any of my emails ...

LASousa welcome to APUG.

The OP is in the UK and sending a camera to the States might get expensive.

Thanks all. I have heard of the museum shop and they look like the most local to me. I'll give them a call.

David Odess, Randolph MA USA
Shouldn't be too bad. David worked for Hasselblad as a technician. He is the best. You will know that the repair is spot on. And he is a good man. Check out his website, some good information there regardless. By the way I have no affiliation with him but for his working deftly on my 503cx and 3 film backs.

MA is rather a long and expensive journey for someone based in the UK

I'd worry about duty being charged; UK customs are much tougher than the US equivalent. A couple of years ago I returned some small art works to an English artist after they had been in a show I curated. The artist paid the >$60 return shipping cost, but the duty was so high that she didn't accept the package and it was returned to me. I had clearly marked the customs form "Art of UK Origin Being Returned after exhibition in the USA" but it didn't matter.

I wouldn't consider sending anything abroad for repair - apart from import duties it would probably get more damage coming back!!

Museum replied to my enquiry:
501 Body £240+VAT
501 body with a lens £360+VAT
A12 backs £120+VAT each
All come with 6 months warranty.

I'd get onto black on white if that's too rich for you.

Please don't ask me to come out of retirement! You don't have to because my brother Jeffrey Fairbank, a fully qualified Hasselblad, is now running Classic V and has all the factory tools etc etc. Dead Link Removed

Had a look here and they are virtually down the road!

There is also Graham Rose (www.GRES.co.uk). He just serviced my 501CM and 80mm lens and A12 back - it's about £190 plus the cost of any replacement parts. He is in Surrey (KT18 5RQ). He was recommended to me by a fine art photographer, RJ of Lux Camera. So you have a few UK choices.
