Tom,

Advantages are debatable, of course: gliding mirror system, TTL flash, winder option, IR remote triggering, digital back compatible <-- is that an advantage?, latest model therefore newer built, colour options (if you can find them and you're into the kewl factor).

Regards, Art.

gliding mirror system : the 501CM has that
TTL flash, winder option : I don't need it
remote triggering : yes, but not very useful without auto focus
digital backs : there are digital backs for all Hasselblad models
latest model, newer built : vanity option
color : pure heresy

Thanks everyone for the "good lucks"! I still haven't shot anything through it yet. I have the magazine loaded up with my favorite film, Neopan 400. I'm hoping to shoot some today. I'm still in amazement of the build of the camera.

The 501 C however has not.

That makes it something about you, not about the camera.

remote triggering : yes, but not very useful without auto focus

Why would you need autofocus for that???
Nonsense!

Indeed.
And what's more, they are all the same.
The latest model, the 503 CW, is no different in this respect from the earliest, the 500 C (now nearly 53 years old): they all take the same digital backs.

latest model, newer built : vanity option

A matter of wear and tear too.

color : pure heresy

A personal thingy again.

The 503 CW just offers more than the 501 C.
Whether that makes it the better choice for you depends on what you want.

Please see post #49 and #50.

The comparison was between the 503CW and the 501CM. OP owns a 501C now, but that is not being discussed at the moment.

How do you suggest to focus remotely then?

What would you want to photograph remotely that requires changing focus?
Or, in other words: why would you need autofocus?

Remote triggering is great, for instance when you set up your camera for a group shot of a group you want to be part of.
Unless they go running away as soon as you go and join them, why would you need autofocus?

Remote triggering is great in many other situations, in which you can't be at the camera at the time of exposure. I can think of many (Victor Hasselblad himself took many photos of birds with the camera in close proximity, but himself far enough away not to disturb his subject), but none that requires autofocus.

So give us your answer: why would you need autofocus?

Sigh. I really don't have time to stimulate your imagination or creativity. I use the IR remote for self portraits and for night shots where I can walk around with a light source and 'draw with light' or other special effects.
