Hasselblad faux pas in TV advertisment

The latest trend seems to be men's clothing stores showing young men in suits carrying old film cameras. First it was Jos. A. Bank (Kodak Retina) and now Men's Wearhouse with a Hasselblad.

Here's a not so sharp photo of the advertisement on TV that I made with my phone. There is something wrong, as you can see. Rookie mistake.

For those of us who are unfamiliar with Hasselblalds, please explain the mistake shown in the photo.

The guy in the picture is taking a picture with the dark slide in place. More or less as trying to take a picture with a rangefinder and the lens cap in place.

Along with OH xxx, what's wrong with the camera!?!...as the once in a week/month/lifetime shot goes floating by unmolested by getting captured in silver compounds.

For those of us who are unfamiliar with Hasselblalds, please explain the mistake shown in the photo.

The Hasselblad allows interchangeable backs and the dark slide is used to protect the film when the back is removed. There are interlocks so that the shutter won't release unless the dark slide is removed and also the back can't be removed unless the dark slide is inserted.

Some people carry multiple backs because they want to have different film types in each back, others might have the same film type in each back, but have one back for low contrast scenes, one for normal, and one for high - this allows the film from each back to be developed according to its contrast. That would not be possible if there were a mix of contrasts on a single roll.

The dark slide interlock makes for a simple and easy to use shutter release lock if you have a tendency to put your camera back into the camera bag after winding the film.

I swap backs between color and Black & white film.

Not long ago I´ve seen some TV series where somebody used a Pentacon Six and looked "through" the camera from behind, like you would do with a 35mm camera, although the P6 in this shot was equipped with the waist level finder, visibly opened...

I have to confess that it has also happened to me, several times. Get the camera out of the bag, set it on the tripod, attach the shutter release, measure the light, set the readings in the lens, compose, focus, wait for everything ready and click, just to realize that the plate was still in the slot.

I just have two backs loaded so that I can shoot 24 pictures in succession without having to reload. Especially in the field I like to avoid the hassle of changing films (pun intended)

Slightly tangential, but I just saw a Men's Wearhouse television ad that prominently features a flash bulb. It was a number 5B.

Yeah, they've shortened the ad, too. That photo I posted above, well the camera appeared in the ad for maybe 1/10th second originally - easy to miss. I had to single-step my DVR to make the photo. The newest ad just barely shows the camera from a side angle and then you see the flashbulb.
