Hey guys, this is probably a dumb question but i was wondering what makes the hasselblad's so desireable. I know that they shoot 120 mm film and all but what makes them so great? Our TA demoed one in class the other day and I'll have to admit they are pretty neat. However, they do seem pretty pricey for what they are (2,000 used). I was just curious why people seem to like them so much.
Thanks
andrew

In my opinion it is a matter of quality and precision manufacturing rather than a real difference in capabilities. A Hassy should last for many years and give good service. It is kind of like buying a mercedes rather than a ford. They will both get you to the same place, but your mercedes will have more refinement and will likely last a lot longer.

One other thing, you can get a used 500 series hassy for as little as $500 or $700. I am not sure where you are located or what currency you are quoting, but 2000 dollars, euros or pounds will get you quite a bit in a used hassy.

You might search up the recent thread, "Why are Hasselblads so expensive?"
It goes on forever, and pretty much goes over a ton of ground on Hasselblad.

Hi Andrew, take a look at some nice, finished prints taken with a Hasselblad. I'm sure that will answer all your questions.

Square is for those who can't decide or don't want to. Perfect for the indecisive or undecided. It's just plain square.

Yes, this is the only reason you might have to want an Hasselblad!
Ridiculous statement!

Deardorffs get you chicks. I don't think Nicole would need a Hasselblad to take those wonderful pictures; it's not the camera it's the talent behind the camera that counts.

A Hasselblad makes 4x5 quality on 120 film. It's precise, fast, and pleasant to use.

It is like a Porsche that hauls drywall.

The limiting factor is always the operator.

Maybe with other cameras people will look at your talent and personallity and maybe also your good looks. With a Hasselblad they just want you for the Hasselblad. Which works for me...

When they see your Hasselblad, the chick probably think you're a successful fashion pro. They not only think you've got gobs of money, but that you can get them on the cover of Vogue.

Most models I work with don't care about the camera, as long as you make 'm look good.

Only if they know what a Hasselblad is. Most modern women would probably think it was a speed camera.

That might have been near the truth a few years ago, except that I'd assume that they were dentists or lawyers or insurance salesmen with bulging wallets, and that the best I could hope for was being on the front page of the National Enquirer (again). Nowadays Hasselblad owners are more likely to spend more time and money on eBay than on personal hygeine and the best I can hope for is the front page of the Weekly World News (again).

And Andy, I'll have you know that I can recognise a Hasselblad. They are rather boxy and painted grey or yellow.

Best,
Helen

Well the warning signs are remarkably Hassy-like, but the cameras themselves are more akin to a TLR.

Heck, when I was shooting my blad, the first girl I encountered looked at it and asked "What kind of video camera is that?"

And I can assure you, I have taken some really BAD pictures even with a Hassleblad!!!

What great copy for Hasselblads Next advertising campaign Ari, it may do wonders for their sales. I once read somewhere that more girls take their clothes off for Hasselblads than any other camera.

Why is an Aston Martin desireable? Why is a Louis Vuitton bag desireable? Why is a Breitling watch desireable? Why are white truffles desireable? Why is a fine piece of a$$ desireable?

Answer those and you get your answer.

Usually because it comes attached to a good looking bimbo.
