I would say it looks like an SK150 cable release, but since you say it has a connector on the other side too, seems like some kind of extension cord. Can you take a picture of the other side as well?

here is the picture of the other end. It is approximately 39" in length and the cable is ~ 1/8" in diameter..
It actually looks like some type of flash connector?? The five pin connector would appear to connector on the side of the EL/ELM body
but I have NO idea where the other end would go. But it looks like it might be some type of flash connector.
Thanks for you help.

You could use it as a remote release by shorting the tip. Or fancifify it by making and adapter. using a female plug and a simple n/o press switch.

+1 for Slxtiesix I have a catalog from 1997 and there is a 3 m cable #46086 Release cord SK 150 for the side socket on page 32 that matches your picture.

http://www.jeffreyglasser.com/

Sorry Jeffrrey you are confused.
In that catalogue, page 32, you refer to the SK 150 that terminates in the button release not a minphone connector that the OP has
and it is 1.5m not 3m as you quote.
The picture/table is confusing but in the bottom picture the release button top left goes via 46086 and 1.5 m (yellow lines) and goes to the multiconnector.
The minphone connectors in that picture are intended for the front socket and also terminate in the release button.

Hasselblad do not list a multiconnector terminating in a miniphone/minijack it is a third party part for a Pocket Wizard to release the shutter.

Chris i believe you have found it .. I just didn't know that the Pocket wizard system went that far back .. but the link you provided is very similar if not exactly the same as the cable I have .. thanks to all .. I have had this cord for ages and never known what it was for .. probably because I never used the pocket wizard systems ..

No problem Bill, as I said they are not cheap and could be re-sold.
The Pocket Wizard was preceded by the Flash Wizard which came in the late 80's !!
The Pocket came in the late 90's.
There was a technological life before dig**al :D
