My new A12 back is giving me very little spacing between frames. So close that I could fit a 13th frame on the roll. Is there any way to get the back to give more spacing. I think I remember reading somewhere that you can advance slightly past the start arrow when loading the back. Is this the key?

Best if you send it for a CLA by a Hasselblad technician.

Steve

One of my A12 backs recently started spacing irregularly, some frames overlapping a bit, some spaced too widely. So it is in the capable hands of the wonderful, 80-something year old technician whom I take my equipment to for repair and maintenance. His wife, who is eastern european like him, works in the shop. One day she left me a message to the effect that "Hasselblad camera is r-r-r-r-ready to peek up."

When he finally retires (or more likely dies while working on a camera) I am going to have to quit photography.

No, that's not the key. These backs need adjusting every now and then. Get it serviced. While you're at it, have the light seals replaced. The A12 back should be fine for may more years after that.

When they are right, you will have very uniform and somewhat wide spacing between frames. Makes cutting them apart easy.

One of mine A12's are spaicing perfectly on all frames, exept between 1 and 2. So for that back i had it marked with an X on the darkslide. So everytime this back comes to my hand pre-loaded with film. I shoot the first frame with my hand covering the lens. So this back gives me 11 frames. If i ever seeing spacing problems with one of my backs, ill probably send it away for service or buy a new one. I think the prices for used and new A12's are okay.

Adjusting the distance between frames 1 and 2 is not a big job.
Instead of wasting film, why not have it fixed?

How much does this service cost? This back was a replacement for one that I got from KEH (in EX) that had a light leak. There's no light leak now, but now apparently a spacing issue that needs servicing.

Brian, that depends on how much cleaning it needs. The Hasselblad repair person at Samys will charge $75 for a full cleaning and some times he does not charge me.
