Hello all

I have a 203FE with the below magazine. What has happened is that the insert doesn't come out more than a few millimetres when I turn the film holder key. This happened twice earlier in the week but after a bit of wiggling the insert came out. However, since this morning the insert seems stuck. There is no film in the magazine and the one I removed last night was intact so i don't think there is any backing paper or such causing this. Would be very grateful for suggestions as to solution.

I am also wondering which magazine I have. I've understood that both ECC and E magazines have electronic contacts for transferring contrast compensation and/or ISO to the body but mine doesn't have those contacts yet has the contrast compensation dial.

Thanks very much in advance
Philip

Does the insert match the serial number on the back? It looks like you have a EEC insert in a non-E back...

Ed: Magazine SN indicates it was built in 94, which is when the 200 E serise cameras were being made. But the film gate plate is clearly a non-E part. But that would explain your issue with ISO not being reported to the camera, and being able to set the ISO in the pr mode.

Thanks very much for the replies. Yes the numbers of the magazine and the slide match.

Below are a few more photos.

I'm now officially confused. The seller (a well known dealer in Gothenburg) told me the magazine was an ECC magazine. I must be honest I (being a novice re these cameras) didn't notice anything strange until I tried to use the Pr ISO function and noticed I could adjust it on the camera and that it didn't mirror the ISO on the magazine. I'll certainly be in touch with the dealer and see what can be done.

I am wondering if the insert jam has anything to do with the fact that the magazine appears to be a mix of different types.

Philip

You can see the Zone system dial on your insert. This is for the 205 spot metering camera.
You can see the lack of contacts on the face of the shell. This shell is for 500 series non electronic cameras.
Hopefully the vendor has not sold the back that has the 205 shell with the 500 insert that is sitting in his shelf!
And hopefully you can get the two apart without damage.
I don't think I will to simulate the mismatch with my gear, but I wouldn't bet the lockup is the mismatch. My gear looks identical in all relevant ways inside.
Be sure the lip on the slide is the right way and all the way in. the release knob needs to be worked, or wiggled or turned one way or the other, to get the insert out.

Hi Bill

Yes I hope the seller can explain this odd mix of magazines to me. It is certainly strange. During the week the insert was a bit difficult on several occasions but each time the insert eventually popped out. However, as of Saturday it's firmly stuck.

I'm emailing the seller tonight and will ask what he can do. I also have a question about the shutter times of the body but I'll ask that in a separate thread.

br and thanks for the help
Philip
