Howdy folks. I picked up a 500CM to replace my 500C. It was winding and firing but there was just a little spot of resistance about halfway through the wind that didn't affect the function but had me concerned enough to pop the body shell off and take a look inside to see if the grease was dry, etc. I did so, and all looks well inside the camera. Grease looks soft and fresh still.
When I tried tripping the shutter with the shell removed, nothing happened. The camera was definitely wound, but the shutter release didn't fire the camera. I didn't want to screw anything up so I went ahead and put it back in the shell. As I was doing so the camera fired. Ok, no problem, I thought, and finished getting the camera together (including getting the mirror lockup lever together correctly).
After getting the camera together I went to wind it. When I did only the front right side of the mirror would start moving down. The left side stayed locked up. To release tension on the mirror mechanism I released the pawl on the winding gear below the knob (marked with a red arrow in the pic). When I did release it, I noticed that something is definitely out of wack. The wind knob is not in the correct position, nor is the gear that sticks out of the back to wind the back on.
I'm sure I must have just bumped something and it's a straightforward fix, I just can't figure it out! Any help would be appreciated. I would like to get the camera working again until I can get the scratch together to send it in for a full CLA.
