(I hesitate slightly in posting this, as the guy seems to get a lot of stick, especially regarding the way he chooses to expose his images, but anyway...)

According to his blog, he only shoots an 80mm on his Hasselblad, and always at f2.8. He doesn't seem to have any problems creating lovely photographs. And yes, you read that right: he only shoots his lenses wide open
Interesting thread as I took delivery late last week of my first Hasselblad - a 1969 500C + 80mm Planar f2.8. Putting my second test roll (Tri-X) through it on Wed, I was curious about its wide-open performance. A quite smooth and easy on the eye result, but not something I would particularly make a habit of...

I haven't been able to get my head around why he limits himself to always shooting wide open, but agreed, very smooth and easy on the eye. This reminds me that I need to stop being lazy and make notes when I'm out with the camera. I usually have no idea of my settings unless it's a test roll.

For thirty years I did very well with my 60mm f4 distagon and a 90mm Kilfit macro on my Hassy fcm. Only during the past few years with lens prices no longer in the stratosphere have other Hassy lenses become available. The 90 is probably closer to a "normal" lens than the 80 (which I now possess. The best lens combo is based on individual preference.

Your not missing anything. My standard on 6x6 is 50mm. If I had a 60mm I would probably use it instead. On my old Blad system I had 50, 80 and 150 which covered everything I needed. That and some closeup rings and a 2X teleconverter. Very compact kit and weighted less than my 35mm kit.
I agree with Eric; had the same experience
