Hello all,

I scored a deal awhile back on what appears to me to be a pretty mint condition Hassy 50mm CFi.

I'm hoping someone can tell me what the last control ring near the front of the lens does...??

Starting from the camera end of the lens it has: focus, next is aperture, then shutter speed, then at the very end, near the front of the lens, I don't know what this ring does or controls...

It is labeled infinity - 4 - 1,2 - 0,8 - 0,5 m

When I look through the viewfinder and adjust that ring...I don't see any perceptible changes ...

Can someone help me out as to what this is for, what it controls and what to use it for?

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

From Zeiss's documentation on the lens:

Like the 40 mm Distagon@T* f/4 lens, this lens features two focusing rings. The first, which is marked with 4 distance ranges, is used to preselect the range required tor the photograph. The following ranges are available: infinity-4m, 4-1.2m, 1.2-0.8m and 0.8-0.5m. Adjustment of this ring changes the distance of the front group (elements 1-4) from the rest of the optical system, providing the most favourable spacing for optimum image quality. The second ring, adjustable tram 00 to 0.5 m, is then used to focus in the usual way.

That ring is why the CFi cost more than the CF.

Wow...thank you!!

Ugh...I guess I gotta work on my google-fu a bit better....I'd not found that info!!

Ok....interesting. I've gotten good images off it (not a lot, it is pretty newish to me still)....but I'd not noticed the setting there, I think it was in infinity most of the time?

Anyway, thank you!!

LOL..now, all I gotta do, is find a darned front lens cap for it!!!

Apparently the B70 mount isn't as common as B60 and I'm having a heck of a time finding a lens cap for it.

Sounds like a floating element. The effect is very slight, I used a 50 for an RB & could only see a difference in the corners of the
focusing screen as I changed the rings position.
