HI all,

I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I recently acquired a really nice Hasselblad 501CM, and so far am loving it.

My tripod is a Really Right Stuff one with a RRS ball head on it, arca swiss type plates on my cameras.

I also have my mono pod, and other items set up with arca swiss. I got a plate I thought would work to attach to the Hassy, a RRS TH-DVTL 55 plate...and the big screw goes through the middle hole of the plate, and begins to screw into the hold on the bottom of the camera, but that hole is too shallow and I can't screw it down tight enough to mount it firmly, it is nowhere near deep enough for this screw.

I tried the smaller screws that came with it, but alas those won't fit either, they're just too narrow.

I tried asking RRS what to use, but they didn't seem to be able to give me an answer...I can't believe I'd be the first ones to ask them you know?

Anyway, can someone tell me if there is a shallower screw that would fit through this current plate and into the big hole on the bottom of the camera, or....a better arca swiss plate that will fit on the camera, and I can save this other one I have for something else along the line?

Thank you in advance,

cayenne

Hasselblad makes their own quick-release plate (which is a fancy contraption including levels) that's designed to work with the foot on the bottom of the camera:

I ended up getting one of these, then sticking a generic RRS plate onto the bottom of it. Of course its annoying having to have an extra "adapter" every time I want to mount my Hasselblad on a tripod, but it does work fairly well.

My, thank you for the quick replies!!!

Ok, well, both the whole plate replacement and those Acratech plates look interesting.

With regard to the latter.....how do I know what size the holes are on my 501CM ? Is there a spec sheet somewhere on my model camera to find out if the holes down there are 3/8" or 1/4" ?

TIA,

cayenne

I though the Hassys had both size tripod screw sockets (at least the 500C/M does) The smaller one is 1/4" and the larger one 3/8". By the way, if you choose to go with an adapter and keep your RRS plate, this might be the adapter you want: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00OKYWWMG/ref=twister_B00OT2INJA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It should fit flush in the existing tripod socket in your camera, rather than those I suggested before that have a little lip.

Quick update...

I ended up going with the Acratech plate offering....it bolted right on and works great.
No shift or wiggle when attached to my various arca Swiss clamps.

I tried the replacement Hassy plates, but they were asking what size screws were currently holding the old hassy 'foot' there...and when I measured mine, it wasn't the same as one of the two they were expecting.
They wanted me to send one screw in for them to look at and at that point, I dedided it was too much a hassle to do that so got the Acratech. bolt on plate and voila, it worked.

Thank you all for the great help and advice!!

I went with the Acratech for my Hasselblad as well. Works great with my RRS ball head.
