Can I use a 220 filmback with 120 film? Has anyone tried?

Yes--it works but the spacing is a bit weird--it gets larger and larger spaces towards the end of the roll, so you can get all 12 shots, but it's very close to not fitting. when you put the roll in it may be best to line the film arrow up about 60-90 degrees before the "red arrow" in the film back to get as close to the front of the roll as possible for the first frame to ensure you get all 12 shots.

backs needing CLA will be worse and may cut off that last shot (or more)

I use an A24 with 120 and usually get 11 frames. This by aligning the start arrow with the rounded edge before the start arrow. I use it rather than my A12 as it has a built in dark slide holder. As stated above, the frame spacing is not uniform.
