I know, I know...what did I expect...buying a used 205tcc!!!??? Well, not to bore you with the back story, but a good friend called a week or so back after buying some machinists tools off craigslist. He met someone liquidating the estate of a family member. I ended up buying said Hasselblad 205tcc, 110 and 150 lenses, 2 backs, flash, a large format Sinar setup, and a broncolor with two heads, all in professional tenba cases. Everything is pretty much unused, looks new, works great...well, except for the hasselblad.
The story I got was the equipment was purchased mid 90s, then the buyer suffered an accident and it sat unused. I’m thinking the lack of exercise is what did the hassy in. Here’s what’s going on - for those of you familiar with focal plane shutter Hasselblads. I’ve had 500s before, but this 200 series is all new to me.
You pop the shutter, and the mirror flips up, but doesn’t return. The shutter curtains don’t move. Battery is new, other functions such as metering work. When it’s at this point with the mirror up and the shutter stuck, you can hit the double exposure button and wind it, and the mirror drops immediately, but of course film doesn’t advance. You can also wind it traditionally, but the camera gives some not so good feeling resistance that you have to “snap” past. Mirror drops, camera cocks, film advances, but again when you pop the shutter button, the curtains don’t move.
I have a few questions: first off, will anyone even service these 200 series bodies anymore. I checked with David Odess, and he politely declined. Hasselblad Service’s NYC location website says they don’t service the 200s. Am I stuck sending this to Hasselblad Germany? Or does anyone have a reputable hasselblad tech who will touch this thing.
Secondly...any chance I’m missing something simple here? Like I said before, I’m not familiar with the 200 series Hasselblads.
Or do I just have a very fancy looking paperweight, along with a bunch of hasselblad components to sell now?
Thank you all!
