I was thinking of something else that's aged in old whisky barrels then...congnac, perhaps?
There are several products aged in old U.S. Bourbon barrels. Some very popular barrels come from Jack Daniels. These barrels have only been used once to age bourbon as it is against U.S. law to age alcohol again in the U.S.A. in these used barrels. Some of the scotch distilleries in Scotland use Jack Daniel barrels as do some of the Rum distilleries in the Caribbean. Here in Louisiana the only company that I know of using barrels from Jack Daniels to age their mash in is the family that makes Tabasco Sauce. You can use them making Tabasco Sauce until they wear out. Our two rum distilleries here can only use new barrels.........Regards!
