Having been up to Mobberley a couple of times for meetings, can concur that Ilford are always the first to get a round in when it's pub time!

I sure wish homes were that cheap around here.

Here, that wouldn't even cover the land cost, at least until you are way out past the suburbs - think at least an hour commute to get into town.

Or, in other words, it is complex, and everything is relative.

You got me curious and I looked on homes.com. The cheapest home listing in Delta, BC is 389,000 CAD. In my town it's only 235,000 USD.

I must have just bought an average UK home then +/- £500 But mine came with a 4mx4m stone & breeze block Summer house (actually it have been an electricians workshop) now lined with insulation and to be a decent sized darkroom.

What you get for £186,500 in the UK depends very heavily on the area. Mobberly which is near Knutsford is in a very affluent belt that stretches from the South West to the South East around Manchester, It's known as Footballers wives territory because so many leading football players live in the area, including (in the past) David Beckham who lived to the West at Aldderley Edge for a few years.

Manchester has two major football teams City and United, Liverpool is nearby and has Everton & as well as Liverpool FC itself, Burnley is to the north, Stoke City to the south, a large proportion of the current and former players live in that belt below Manchester, and it's a very sort after area, unlike the North East of Manchester. And then Manchester itself is one of the nicer British cities great shops, very friendly and vibrant. (Maybe I'm biased as my mothers family came from the area).

So I'd guess there would be no difficulty selling houses on the proposed development.

Thanks for the clarification Simon. Clearly the forum respondent was speaking in complete ignorance or worse, cynically confusing Ilford Imaging in Switzerland with Ilford Photo in Mobberley

Clearly tours after the re-development will involve much less walking I am not saying that the current site "sprawls" a bit but one of us on the 2006 tour was lost and then found two years later by chance on the 2008 tour

Location controls the price is true everywhere. There are plenty of big city places in the US with prices like that. OTOH they're shocking to me, accustomed as I am to the prices out here in the Atlanta suburbs and the even lower ones back in the country in TN where I grew up.

There is the Real camera Company though and Jem is a great guy.

Plus Thornton Pickard were in the mad hatter land of Altrincham, I have a lot of TP shutters. . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . and a few cameras/focal plane shutters. It shouldn't be forgotten that all Kodak film packs were subject to a Thornton Patent, as was some of Kodak's early colour film.

Bought 'things' in Jem's, but as well there is a Leica dealer and a shop in the glass arcade next door, and a Jessops which last I don't count.

But I go there for the NQtr derelicts (factories) and 'street'.

Spot on Ken. Were this news regarding Kodak or Fuji, lack of communication would have fueled all kinds of speculation. Ilford maintains their image like no other company. I'm buying a brick of Ilford film this weekend, just to celebrate their good future. I need to go out shooting more!

D3200 is fantastic stuff, especially in 120!

+1! You can shoot it at 800-1250 with absolutely normal looking results and grain more like historic classic Tri-X than anything else or get phenomenal-for-speed results up to 3200 (and probably 6400 but I haven't tried that.) It's a great film.

At the other end of the speed scale so is Pan F+...

I'm not going to say what I paid for this house or what it's worth now (a lot less than I paid in 2005) because all you rich folks would think you were slumming. But it's a good neighborhood. A friend who lived what we call here ITP (Inside The Perimeter - of I-285 that goes all around Atlanta) mentioned houses in their neighborhoods back when I was shopping. So I took a look at his house and thought "humm, older, no garage, smaller, but if the price is right..." then told him the range I was shopping and he commented there were some in the area in that range "this one was a bit more of course..." I took one look at those others in the neighborhood and thought, "ah, no thanks. I'll drive."

This is such a long thread that I have not kept up with it, but I have a point to make after skimming it.

You see, what Harman is doing is almost exactly what Kodak is doing, but in a slightly different direction. Kodak has changed Kodak Park into Kodak Industrial Park and they are renting out space to businesses and demolishing old and unused buildings to make room for new construction.

There is a striking parallel to these two companies actions, but with the direction of one being "consumer" and the other being "industrial".

And it seems to me that no one is getting rich on either plan. It is a method of staying "even" or just moving ahead with some degree of usable "profit".
