Harman Photo cryptic announcement/teaser

But why not Indianapolis, at Roberts? (Rhetorical question)

San Clemente, of course, has a lot going for it so why not…

As far as the timing of the launch, I think nowadays you launch a color film whenever you can. And I am sure that Harman sees the date being a few weeks before Christmas as a benefit.

As far as the collaboration with The Darkroom film lab in San Clemente, this is Harman's partner for Harman Lab US.

Perhaps a tie in with FreeStyle?

Sorry, Matt… have no idea what you are suggesting. It’s a tie-in with The Darkroom. Why would there be a tie-in with anyone else but Roberts? Freestyle sells their stuff but don’t they get it via Robert’s like everyone else. I’m confused by your remark. Please clarify.

FreeStyle are probably the highest volume West Coast retailer of film related merchandise. And they are also a major distributor of a lot of product, having a particular "in" with the educational market.

Seems like idle speculation that there’s any kind of tie-in with Freestyle. Unless you know something that nobody else seems to know.

You read it here first, folks…

Thus the "perhaps" in response to a rhetorical question raised in a thread dedicated to speculation.

The likely dull, wet weather in England could well be why the main launch event is in California. Early December makes perfect sense for Christmas sales , especially if - as Harman have stated - they will be ready to send large quantities out to customers and distributors from December 1st. Additionally, the USA is a huge market for Ilford films, certainly bigger than the UK despite this being Ilford/Harman's home.

*If* Phoenix represents a colour film and if there's a nice photo walk on December 1, from which pictures mighta ppear on December 2....that could be a very effective launch party.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is colour film......maybe Harman have been working on this a lot longer than we thought.

When did the Ilford and Kentmere boxes change to make the Harman branding bigger? two or three years ago? This was noted at the time, and people here did wonder why. Perhaps they've had a plan all along to introduce a colour film under the Hraman brand, and it's now ready....but a few years ago when the green-lit the project they also updated the Ilford and Kentmere boxes raise awareness of the Harman name.

Maybe I am putting two and two together, and getting five. But it would make sense from there perspective. And it would mean they have been working away at colour for longer than most of us thought.

Elsewhere, I am in contact with someone who does not know what the new product is, but he knows someone who does (he has connections to one of the dealers). And he says they cannot say due to an NDA....but are *very* excited.

If it's an in-house developed and produced color film, it's something they must have been working on for several years. It's not the kind of thing you'd squeeze out in a couple of months.

Anyway, December 1 isn't too far away. We can speculate all we like, but personally I'm fine just sitting around minding my own business until the news comes my way.

What? They call themselves The Darkroom, and they don't do same-day D&P?

I'm getting the impression this is an afternoon walk. If the films are then processed and scanned in the evening, the content creators will presumably want some time to....umm...create content. It's not the matter of 10 minutes to make even a five minute video. I've been involved in the production of a three minute promo video for English Heritage which took some 4 weeks to edit....

Now i am not expecting that, but we might not see all the results until 2nd. Just a hunch really. Big announcement on 1st with some photos shared in social media from the influencers who were given the films this month...then the results from the photo walk on 1st will trickle out in the following days. Not every content creator is intent on getting "stuff" out ASAP.

Caveat....I'm resident photographer at a music club where it has been known for me to get B&W 35mm film developed and scanned and photos to the venue and artists in under 24 hours. But that's a different kettle of red herrings.

My comment was at least half joke. I somehow 'knew' this was at 4pm; but I realise I picked that up from an earlier post (#717) where someone had reposted Ilford's 'something is coming' from last year, which was at 4pm. The Darkroom's Instagram now says it's at 11 am, which is sensible, because I guess the sun will still set at about five, California or no California.

If it was my event, I'd make sure of getting everyone's film back before they left, in exchange for a parting goody-bag maybe, to make sure none of the guests mucked up the developing, cross-processed it, etc. (I daresay I'm stating the obvious here)

Where would you lead a photowalk to? Looking at the map, I'd get off the street onto the Rancho San Clemente trails. To a non-Californian, the sea seems the obvious destination; it's about a mile by the shortest route (and that shortest route isn't the trail).

There's a big Marines base at Camp Pendleton (What's that? 'Camp Pemberton'? There's another conspiracy to be unearthed here), which might be in walking distance. Bound to be photogenic: it has attractions like 'Combat Town Bravo 1'! I'm sure the Marines wouldn't mind if you dropped in, would they?

The invitation sites, and The Darkroom, give the walk path… and the pubs. Starts at the pier at 2PM…

they usually send the stuff to creators in advance, and these creators all publish their contents not before the given time. For the kentmere 120 launch it was like that, at least.
So, if i had to bet on it, lots of adobe premiere pro instances around the globe are already encoding stuff and ring-that-bell videos.

The 1st december thing will be the official launch with public presentation, try-outs, things for the general public with the testimonials. The Darkroom will probably be developing and scanning quickly some of the stuff, in the meantime there will be greetings, some chips and sandwiches, stuff like that.

Probably an other boring B/W or some silly dev/darkroom product.

Yawn.

Just been disappointed too many times by this type of marketing to get excited anymore.

… so we’ve determined that nobody on Photrio is, or can admit, to being an influencer who is testing the new (whatever), but is anyone from Photrio signed up to participate in the PhotoWalk? If I read the invitation correctly it is/was open to anyone who signs up.
