I did a deeper dive and realized that Ilfocolor film is a product of Ilford Europe, not Harman.

But maybe Harman still owns the "Selochrome" brand: There's no rule which says that the products or brands being resurrected need be fresh in the minds of anyone. Crosley, Victrola, Abercrombie & Fitch and Bugatti would be just a few examples of brands which were dredged from the distant past.

Well, no one outside Ilford "followers" has any idea this Harman campaign is even happening. So they are currently playing to an existing audience.

It's curious that Ilfordphoto is followed by some 471,000 people on Instagram, while Harmanphoto currently has a little under 3500.

If anything, it's got us talking more than the folk of Instagram. But it's not yet been publicised via Ilfordphoto yet. Lots of wild guesses, few of which make much sense given prior knowledge.

@4season Absolutely correct, "Ilfochrome" is a trademark owned by the "other" Ilford. But Harman could manufacture, co-manufacture or market colour film under another name....if they had the ability. As far as we know, they do not....unless they have tied-up with FujiFilm more than we'd expected.

All we can be reasonably confident of is that they're not dropping the Ilford name from the regular B&W line of products....so the assumption must be that this is something they can't sell named Ilford or Kentmere. And we should probably assume it's a significant launch because it involves an entire new brand being created with associated social media accounts, trademarks and website. There's no need to do any of that for HP5 in 220, for example.

Right now it is of no consequence.
It won't have any consequence unless and until there is something of interest uploaded to it.
It is like a telephone that no-one is calling, except to check if it works.

Yes, it’s a joke. The harman site still has the Phoenix.

My best guess would be Kentmere in sheets. Would be pretty cool, but not too unrealistic.

Epic pipe dream: 220. Sadly that is almost certainly not the case however.

What if they want to show us a complete color processing set including film, chemistry, developing equipment, paper and some sort of scan-film-with-your-cellphone device etc. Does that sound viable?
It matches earlier efforts of Ilford Photo introducing small volume dev solutions in accordance with some Paterson equipment, Ortho+ in 35 mm and 120 and new generation of RC paper.

well, first announcement was...10 days ago. And if i'm not wrong only a followup post after that.
we may have wrote 11 pages with wild speculations in the meantime, but their strategy is not that annoying...

Take away the film and paper and it does match some things Ilford already does for b&w (and Ilford also promotes a cell-phone scanning device every now and then on Instagram, through giveaways). So, they could be offering a developing kit. They may have branded their own negative-holder-above-a-light-pad for phone-scanning negatives. So, not an outlandish speculation.

Surely they'd just call it "Kentmere" if they were to release Kentmere films in sheets?

It may be useful to us, but we are not the target audience. I would guess this is primarily aimed at younger folk new to film photography. After all, we already know about Harman/Ilford/Kentmere and already choose to buy (or not to buy) their products, fully aware of what they sell.

I had an opportunity to forward a question to an Ilford Rep a few months ago about this very matter, asking if they will produce Kentmere as a sheet film product. The answer was: No, the Kentmere emulsion making is sufficiently different from the Ilford emulsions that it cannot be adapted to sheet film production. Apparently they tried, and it didn't work out. So I expect you can cross that off your list.
