a wowser is someone who doesn't want anyone to enjoy themselves especially if it's something they (the wowser) feels is morally wrong, like drinking, dancing etc. These people usually call themselves the "moral majority" but that is probably the public face they show. Anyway, there's absolutely nothing wrong with drinking in moderation, and nothing wrong with drinking because it's ST Patrick's Day.
