First off...at 65, am I an old-timer?

Just pulled my 4x5 gear from the closet to compare its weight to my Fujifilm X-T2 gear.

X-T2 with 16-80 and 70-300 lenses, 1.5TC, ND filter, spare batteries, lens cleaner & wipes, blower, Atlas Athlete packsack, and enough extra clothes to spend an emergency night out in the wilds in below freezing temperatures came to 19 pounds.

Zone VI 4x5 field camera outfit in original bag, focusing cloth, 6 holders, and two Schneider lenses in the same packsack with overnight gear comes to 30 pounds.

Went for a 12 Km snowy forest walk a couple days ago, and my body doesn't hurt...too much!

Almost the same age.

But not a fair comparison - my XT-3 only has a 23mm f2 - and I've just replaced that with an X100VI.

So compared to my Graphic View 4x5 isn't a fair fight - especially since wife normally carries a bag when we're out and about, so I just toss the X100 in there with all her other stuff - she doesn't even know until I ask for the camera

A baby stroller or shopping cart does wonders for hauling gear around. Plus nobody pays any attention to someone with a stroller on the street, in a park or even on a trail.

Unless it's a Frenchie, there is little chance of anything being stolen from the stroller.

Carrying gear in a proper packsack is the only way that works for me. I wander off-trail quite often when things look interesting in the distance to either side. It can sometimes take an hour to make it back to the trail.

The forest here is very thick, with fallen mature trees, vigorous undergrowth, and ravines. Last hike was on the valley floor and I clocked 780 feet of elevation gain, so not the kind of place where you can saunter about with camera on tripod slung over a shoulder.

My wife has an X-T3 with heavy macro and 100-400 lenses, so her camera gear is heavier than mine...she'd notice the difference and would NOT be amused!

Me too! Oof! I feel you here. I have a Gitzo tripod that weighs 30 pounds. Crazy, My solution is an e-bike with a pannier, under set pack and a front carriage.
If I were planning to add that tripod, I will need a pack mule!

Good on ya for the 12 Km walk. I haven't done one that long in a couple years but I'm working up to it.
