At www.macodirekt.de on their Rollei Retro 100 film page one can read: "Film made as APX 100 by Agfa / Germany". I shot a couple of 100ft cans of it last summer. At least on the bulk film the print next to perforation reads "APX 100".

Mark,

Do you think that the APX 100 film being sold by Mailshots is the same product as the Rollei Retro 100 film?

Tom

Tom I've not used them but a quick google seems to suggest that they have some of the last batch made at Leverkusen dated for expire (I think) 2011
I think Agfa churned out APX until the 12th hour, because there is quite a bit in the supply lines.

It is my favourite film of all time I have about 20 120 and 8-9 35mm of original Agfa and half a dozen 120 Rollei retro left....

I suspect it was a profitable product until the very end. As proper stewards to the stockholders it was their job to wring every reasonable bit of profit from the company possible.

Rollie Retro is described as a substitute for APX100 but that doesn't mean it's same thing. To my eyes, they are different films. I tried a roll of 120 and used the same development as I used to for APX100 and the negs and the resulting prints came out different. Not bad mind you, just different.

As it happens, I have had a roll of each sitting on the corner of my computer desk for about a week. To my eye, both the base and the emulsion are quite noticeably different. I'll be shooting both in the next week or so, and if I ever get caught up on processing my films, I'll be able to judge how they compare performance-wise.

Cheers,

Tom,
APX100 and Rollei Retro 100 are different in type 120 in that way that the latter was converted from APX stock intended for type 135. This means different base thickness and colour and different kind of AH-layer.

If you're trying to make me get off my arse and develop some film, it's not going to work. :D (I will be shooting one or both of these films in the coming week, though.)
