Half frame negative size

What is the true actual (measured) size of a half frame negative from a a Pen FT?

I don't mean the nominal value of 24x18mm for half frame negatives, but the actual size of the image measured accurately on a piece of exposed film.

17.4 x 23.3 mm is the size of the film gate on my Pen EE. Maybe it's the same on the FT?

My late-model FT (Serial No 315###) produces negatives measuring 17.1 x 23.5 mm.

There seems to be quite a bit of variability regarding the half-frame format -- from 17x24mm to 18x24mm: CLAIMED. And then there is the complicating factor of the enlarger negative carrier -- which probably also varies.

The film gate on a Pen S (SN 386###) that I have is the same: 17.1 x 23.5 mm.
