Hey APUG,

A bit frantic here, my GW690ii got some major snow exposure (no pun intended) just now. I was doing a long exposure out in the neighborhood as the first coat of snow is covering all the streets. The snowfall picked up quickly as I was out there and covered my GW690 in wet snow. I've got it back inside now, dried it off as best I could but I'm wondering what else I can do to prevent damage. Any thoughts?

Your camera, if you dried it off, should be fine. Just take two rolls of film and call you doctor in the morning.

Thanks for the reassurance. I gave it a good once over again, I think if this camera failed me somehow I would scrape together the cash for a new one the very same day. As much as I love SLRs, the GW is as good as it gets for my shooting preferences.

How much water do you reckon one of these COULD take?

Assuming your GW690 is like my GW690III, extending the hood exposes the shutter and aperture rings - were these exposed to wet snow? Conceivably, some moisture could've gotten inside the lens and mechanism in that manner.

However, if any did it's probably minimal and will eventually evaporate.

Use Gaffer tape to protect the shutter and aperture rings. Or use an umbrella or a hat with a wide brim.

Besides this, I wouldn't worry at all. As long as you won't dip the GW or GSW into your bathtub, it will survive most situations better than you.
