Just what the title asks, does anyone know of a good website that can show me the steps involved in making enlargements for negatives from making a contact sheet to drying the paper? I finally found a lab where I live that lets you rent their darkroom by the hour and I'd really like to get started ASAP. Thanks very much

The book "Way Beyond Monochrome" or Tim Rudman's "The Photographer's Master Printing Course" are good books to check out. Sorry, I don't know a good website.

Wirelessly posted (BBBold: BlackBerry9000/4.6.0.297 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Try the August issue of Creative Image Maker. We had a staff article laying out enlarging basics and the Winter '10 issue will go a little further into controlling contrast and getting that print.

Start off by exposing and developing your film such as to be able to make a "proper proof" with minimum expossure for max black through clear film.
When one has that down pat, the rest is easy; well, sort of.

I cannot believe nobody has mentioned the standard Bibles of B&W; "The Negative" and "The Print", both by Ansel Adams.

Perhaps not best suited towards a beginner, buy highly suggested reads as you get more experienced.

The Zone IV Workshop by Fred Picker is much more approachable for a beginner than Saint Ansel's books IMHO, although they belong in any decent library of photographica as well.
Fred's book lays out the basics of testing your paper and getting a good print in a pretty straight forward and easy to follow way.

Barbaum's book always blows my mind. That being said, I agree with bdial that something more approachable might be in order. I'd recommend Tim Rudman's "The Photographer's Master Printing Course: In Association with 'Amateur Photographer'." It's approachable and will answer everything you need to know for quite some time.

Get a copy of "Photography" by Barb and John Upton. It covers all aspects of film photography, from theory to completed photo, as well as display. Good section on exposure, developing, and printing.
Oh yea- I just happen to have a copy for sale cheap in the clasifieds.

I concur with ralnphot... I have a copy of "Photography" by Uptoms that I bought for 75 cents (I got lucky) at a local library book sale. Very well written and covers many topics still very well applicable today.
