This week I received my GS-1 and I am very, very pleased with. The camera house and the AE finder seem to be in perfect working order. However, I do have a question regarding the leds that can be seen in the finder. When I mount the AE finder I see 5 red dots at the top of the finder. Most of them blink when the shutter release is halfway down. But when I consult the AE finder's manual the shutter speed is displayed in the finder at, what seems, the same location where I see the leds. Did I overlook something?

I don't know how I missed this thread...

Anyway, I have the AE Finder too, but mine only gives +/- over/under indicators at 1/2 stop increments. On my display, from left to right, is the shutter speed then the over/under indicator number. All blink at all times, which is kind of strange.

Thank you very much for your reply. The leds on my camera are always blinking as well. The difference is that I see only blinking red dots, instead of a blinking shutter speed. It was the blinking that was troubling me.

That's strange - I can see the shutter speed rather clearly .You might want to check your diopter correction eyepiece, just to make sure something's not amiss. That would compromise the clarity of the shutter speed.

Do you happen to have the normal (non-metered) finder or the WLF as well? If so, do they show the shutter speed as well?

No, all I have is the AE Finder. My diopter popped out of its housing and I couldn't see anything but red lights at the top. My diopter is now in there with a couple of pieces of tape to secure it. Ugly, but it works.

I have taken the camera house as well as the metered prism to a highly regarded service center. It turns out that the electronic circuit for light metering is dysfunctional. The electronics needed for accurate shutter speeds works well. The blinking leds are the result of this electronic failure. The built-in light meter would be a added bonus. It is a pity it is not working, but it remains an excellent camera.

The blinking leds are part of the body and someone messed with the electronics of the metered prism, so I guess it is both.
