How many people on APUG would describe themselves as Grumpy old men? I think I am occasionally, but hopefully not all the time.

Depends on one's perspective, I suppose...

If one is on the outside looking in, that other guy is always the grumpy old fart who is a fool. If one is on the inside looking out, that other guy is always the fool who we refuse to suffer lightly. And as in relativity, there is no way to ascertain with absolute surety which side is moving and which side is not.

Nope, and get off my lawn!

One would hope not. Because once things get stale, it's time to check out.

I prefer Zen mind, beginner mind.

I am and proud of it.

I can definitely be sometimes, but I hope it's only when I see or hear BS of any kind from people who believe that their every perceived woe or difficulty in life is someone else's fault. And those who think that older people "don't understand", when, 9 times out of ten, they've been there and done that years ago.

My grumpy days coincide with what I call a "Ben-Gay day."

If I ever become a grumpy old man, I'm going to seriously need to re-evaluate my wardrobe!

On that day, you're all invited around for a little light bra burning.

No, I am normally very mellow, but I will not suffer fools gladly.

I thought that was a required qualification for posting in the Lounge. (That or grumpy old lady - at least the 'grumpy' part.)

It has to do at least partially with the aches and pains of old age. I need a new hip joint.

So screw off!

Is it really being grumpy? I think its more about the wisdom of age teaching you not to suffer fools gladly. So piss off.

I describe all of you as grumpy old men. Except Molli

One of my less attractive traits is pedantry. The good news, if anything can remedy such an appalling condition, is it only exhibits itself around other pedants. On a day to day basis most people would describe me as laissez faire, if not laid back. Find someone who insists something is so when it ain't however, and I'm like a dog with a bone. It's ridiculous. Men of a certain vintage arguing about the minutiae of a heritage photographic medium is not very classy. It is a man thing, isn't it?

I refuse to answer this question on the grounds it may incriminate me

I don't think I am, but can be very critical. If something is wrong, I don't shy around about pointing it out. I like things done right. This is why I suffer.

Let me say a few things about the 'grumpy old man' thing.

You can go with the thinking that old people are just grumpy. Or you can go with my theory: that we're all born with a bullsh!t filter..going through life, you're bombarded with a constant stream of BS. When you're young, your filter is brand new, so you take it all in stride. No problem.
But as you get older, you've had many years of being bombarded and your filter gets more filled up.

Eventually, you get so much BS accumulated over the years that your BS filter gets clogged up. And you turn grumpy.

Taking questions, now...
