Hi,

For anyone who is interested in the purchase, it will be more likely that we will place the order the first week of January if not the later next week. Until then, you are more than welcome to join. Just directly send me an e-mail (skip PM!). Thanks.

If it is not too late I would also be interested in participating in the purchase. I am interested in 50. Bulent Ozgoren

Hi Bulent,

I am sorry but you are a little too late. I have finalized the order and send the check already.

I am hoping to do it in 6 months or so. Maybe we can organize it so that we have a set date for bi-annual group purchase every year. I think everyone will benefit from it for sure. I would be happy to organize it again.

Warmly,
Tsuyoshi

Hell Tsuyoshi,

Did anything come of this? Wondering how the group purchase worked out. Consider me if you do this again.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,

The group purchase went through and I received my order quite a long time ago--once he got the ball rolling Tsuyoshi had everything set-up and finished in a very short period of time. I'm set for right now, but would be interested in another group buy in January--I know Matt (scootermm) was looking to join a group buy so you may want to start a new thread and see if there is enough interest to do one now (I could probably go in for 25g right now).

Sounds like it went well Jeremy. I will consider putting together another and keep you and Carl in mind if I do. I am busy the next few weeks and just stocked up, but will be ready again soon.

And about how much might it be now? I print pt/pd and may be interested depending on the time and my finances at that particular time.

Prices seem quite varied now between suppliers and I am not certain why. I've seen price per gram ranging from 12 to 27.00! Of course the volume will bring it down. It will depend upon how many go in and how much is ordered. We'll have a better idea when the time comes to order.

Just for those who haven't mixed their own palladium before : 50g will yield 600ml of the sodium-palladium metal salt in solution if you use the standard textbook formula(from Arentz, et al). If you use the slightly more concentrated Michael Ware solution, it will yield slightly less, i.e. 420ml of ammonium tetrachloropalladate solution.

Hi Bill and everyone,

The group purchase went very well. I did not hear anything other than thank you notes, so I would assume everyone got what they expected.

I was looking into the prices of Pd again for a separate reason just now, and I come across this thread. It sounds like the price is coming down now.

What we did last time was to purchase a pack of 25 g, which was a little over $200 last time. I personally think pack of 25 g was a good idea. I know it may be a lot for some people, but it is still reasonable compared to prices of lenses, cameras, and other things that we do not seem to mind paying. Most people bought 25 grams, and some did 50 grams. I personally bought 100 grams, which I am going through rather quickly.

I would be happy to organize the purchase again if enough is interested. We need at least of 500g in total. Let me see how mcuh other sources are charging now.

Warmly,
Tsuyoshi

I swear, these threads sound like drug deals.

Can someone put the 25g purchase into perspective. About howmany sheets of 8x10 will this cover after it is put into solution using Arentz's Formula?

Mark,

Using Arentz's formula, 5 grams of palladium chloride will make 55 mls of sensitizer. So 25 grams would make 275 mls of sensitizer. If you use 0.1 ml per 10 sq. inches, 80 sq inches will require 0.8ml of tetrachloropalladate.

So 275 mls could produce about 344 8x10 sized prints. Assuming that you paid 8 dollars per gram for the palladium chloride, each 8x10 print would use about $0.58 worth of palladium salts.

At that price an 8x10 palladium print will cost roughly about 50% more than a silver gelatin print such as AZO not including processing chemicals.

I think my figures are correct.
