Hello everyone!

I am Heli from Finland and gladly “got” the tip about this site from a Finnish photography website. I just joined and will be reading first your posts and subjects to get to know the habits etc. here. I just bought a medium format camera (6x4,5) and so have shot with it so little that my first photos that I will send here will be 35 mm. I do my prints in my darkroom and I love the feeling that looking at my photo appear on paper brings. It’s certainly something great!
I like portraiture photography but also shoot plants and landscapes. Black and white is definitely my passion. I am an amateur and have photographed “seriously” for about three years.

I also want to say, that it is wonderful that this kind of site exists! I do not have anything against digital photography, because I myself sometimes shoot on digital (nice for snapshots), but I find shooting on film much more challenging and enjoyable. The real feeling of photographing is there.

Welcome Heli I'm sure sure your going to have a wonderful time here

I sneaked a look at your website as I didn't recognise your sign-on and you have many beautiful pictures up there. Your compositions on the plants are very inspiring.

Welcome - I hope you find this places as enjoyable as I do. I also looked at your website and found your work a pleasure to view.

Hello,

you are going to play with Canada and I hope you smash them - revenge is so sweet. They start to be too uppish and its time for them to know the taste of failure.

Hei!, Heli,

Welcome to APUG!

You have excellent work on your site. There is a *wonderful* sensitivity and capture of emotions in your portraiture...

Check out Cheryl Jacobs on APUG. Your styles are different, but close to equal in "goodness".

*EXCELLENT* work!!!

Easy Killer, some of us know a little bit about being uppish (watched a Intl. USA basketball game lately?) and the Canadians aren't it.

In any event, welcome to apug and your photography is very nice.

Thanks a lot for welcoming me and visiting my web gallery!

Juraj, yeah, we will beat Canada for sure . Though Canadians are tall and big players but we Finnish are more swift-moving, at least I hope so. It's going to a rough game. But thumbs up !

Ed, you speak Finnish? And thank you for your beautiful words. I already looked at Cheryl Jacob's site and have to say it's lovely. Just like the way I would like to or be able to photograph. I loved specially her portraits.

Welcome Heli!

Well, I have to tell you that your photos show a lot of 'soul'! They are really nice! I think my favorite is of the sticks in the snow. I love the way they seem to climb from the bottom to the top of the frame. Very nice! Your portraits are beautiful as well.

You will hopefully enjoy this site!

welcome Heli - you have a very interesting and talented eye - great to have you here

Thank you Jeanette and Leon!

Wow, it's so nice to enter the new forum and it's getting much nicer because you welcome all new members so warmly!

Wow, found my old "who are you"-text, so I think I do not have to introduce myself anymore ! So, it's two years ago when I registered myself but after that my mail has changed so that's why I couldn't sign in anymore..

Nowadays I use mainly my Hasselblad 500c/m and my Helga (Holga). I don't have my darkroom anymore, but I rent another darkroom with three other photographers. I also have a Nikon D200, but can tell you it was a worthless buy. My next buy will be a large format camera.

Hello, Heli!

I'm sure that Sean can merge your two accounts - just send him a message saying how you would like it to be.

And welcome back, BTW.

Hi Heli
Like your photographs and I think you OK at all, but would like to see english version of text too on you site. Just like to read more about fellow photogs.

By the way how about that game Finland-Canada two years ago, if you remember.

Oh dear... My english is so terrible that I'm not so sure at all that you would really like to read my writings . Anyway, I've had some interesting sessions with Pyrocat HD (semi-stand) and in my diary www.kuvakonttuuri.fi/diary.htm are some test shots. Next I'm going to find nice semi-stand or stand times for FX2...

And yes, I do remember that game.. We lost ! :D

Ole, yes, I will send Sean a message, let's see what happens !

Cate, hi :D! We have met on RPS forum, haven't we?

Suzanne, thank you!

Hi Heli, and welcome from Canada. Never heard Canadians called "uppity" before. Don't know how you can be "uppity" when you're always apologizing.... I guess one needs to consider the source.

Lots of Finns in Thunder Bay. Rumour has it we have the largest concentration of Finns outside of Finland. We just had the "Finn Fling" here in Thunder Bay that co-incided with the Thunder Bay Blues Fest. We had one of your top blues guitarists here to perform, Jukka T...(can't remember). Excellent blues guitarist! He's the calibre of Colin James and Jeff Healy (both have performed at the Thunder Bay Blues Fest). At the Finn Fling the Boot Toss and the Wife Carry were hilarious. Had to watch that those who drank too much didn't get confused and try the boot carry and the wife toss....

Rick.

hey Rickplace
How is fishing around Thunder Bay. It must be nice to live there. I hope you hook some salmons for your freezer. Here in Toronto life ... just do not like it any more. So heavily overpopulated with....

Hi Heli,

I only got to Finland once - that was only Helsinki which was beautiful but horribly expensive. I'm moving soon to North East Scotland which is as close as we Brits get to the 'real' North, but I hope to get to Scandinavia a bit more.

Will look at your site when I get home. The large format camera is now packed away ready for the move, but I have a lovely little Rollei 35 to keep me company.

Euan

Hello Heli, from down south.
I am not sure why you would like to go LF with that wonderful little box you have, but I guess if one hangs out too much in APUG its inevitable.

Thanks Rick! But... I hope I didn't call Canadians "uppity"? I'd say I didn't..

Thank you Robert and Euan! Euan, Helsinki expensive? Oh, I've never thought so. But it may be, yes.

Ari, I hope APUG hasn't influenced me so much yet that I would buy a LF. I love my darling little Hassy but I am so anxious to at least try a LF cam. Fortunately I have a friend who will borrow me his LF but last time I borrowed a camera from him I had to buy the same for myself . You know the feeling, when you just want to have something, there is a must in you, then there's nothing more to do than go for it..

Heli -no you didn't!

Daniel -fishing around here is pretty good. If you want to travel a bit (100km or so), it is easy to catch your limit.

My summer home is on a small lake (about two km in diameter) and I can usually catch a fish or two in an evening. Mostly pike, but some bass and pickerel too. The pike are good eating if you have the patience to clean them removing the "Y" bones. I don't fish much. I'd rather watch my kids catch the fish. In a while it will be grandkids catching the fish.

Ah, women...always going for that latest fashion accessory... (and men going for that latest gadget although in this case I doubt a LF camera fits either description)
I don't know. Since I started using PanF+ in the Hassy, I have seriously doubted the advantage of a larger negative.

But then again, a woman with a Hasselblad is sexy, one with a LF camera could be even sexier...
