Howdy. My name is Jeff. I am returning to film after spending a few unsatisfying years in digital land.

I have just moved from Los Angeles, CA to Polk City, FL. Half of my cameras are still packed in storage, but I managed to scrounge up some HC-110 and some 120 rolls of various emulsions. I have unpacked my Pentax 645N, a couple Mamiya TLRs, and a Kodak Medalist II - all cleaned up and ready to go.

When I was in the "big city", I shot mostly architecture and street scenes. Now I'm in the swamp with Spanish moss hanging in the oak trees. It looks like landscape and wildlife are in my future. Everything here is green. I love Velvia, but I'm not set up to process it in my tool shed. I suppose I will be experimenting with some contrast enhancing filters to see how the swamp renders in b&w.

I don't know if I have a "favorite format". I'm set for 6x4.5, 6x6, and 6x9. I shot mostly Velvia and Ektar in Los Angeles. FreeStyle was right down the street, so I could just drop it off. Now I'm 16 miles from the nearest gas station, so home processing of the negatives is a necessity. I haven't done any darkroom work since the late 20th century, but it looks like it hasn't changed very much. I have an Epson V600 scanner to hold me over until I can get a printing station built. It seems like nobody does wet printing anymore, so if I want prints I'll just have to make my own.

Any photography enthusiasts between Orlando and Tampa? Camera clubs? Darkroom clubs? I would love to hear from you.

I'm near Orlando, Florida. There IS a semi-public darkroom in Winter Park area. There is an art school called Crealde. If you become a member, you can use the darkroom as often as you'd like. There's another one but it doesn't have a permit, yet, so it is not open. I've been hearing any time now.

Jeff,

If you are interested in swamp photographs, you may be interested in works by Clyde Butcher. He's down south and he specializes in nature photographs, especially swamps.

He is a large format photographer.

lots to shoot in florida -- wildlife abounds, scenery bar none. I spent a summer in Belle Glade, if you know that part of the state.

Read up on the works of Carl Hiaasen, who is the master of weird although if you do the most basic research -- the daily paper will do it -- you will find that he doesn't make that stuff up. A guy who replaces his chomped off by a barracuda arm with a weed whacker? Only the beginning.
