Hi all,
I've been hanging around here for a month or so, and thought it time to introduce myself (the natives seem friendly). My real name is Brad. I live in a sleeply little town about 60 miles East of "The City" of San Francisco and work a day job in the Silicon Valley that is in no way related to photography (well, at least not the **real** kind). I only dream of being able to feed my family as a photographer.
I'm now old enough to have experienced mid-life crisis in the first person and have been interested in photography since...well, I guess it has been since the fifth grade. My fifth and sixth grade teachers had built a small darkroom in the hallway outside their classrooms. Mr Yanish, Mr. Tauzel, if you're out there, you made a difference in my life. Thanks.
As a teen, I hung some tarps in the corner of the basement of my parents' house and called it a darkroom. Local economic conditions don't permit me the luxury of an in house darkroom anymore but, I still try to slosh my own B&W films when time permits. I take most of my stuff to a local lab for processing.
I'm an equipment junkie, and I have a growing interest in old books on the subject of photography. My current films of choise are: Fuji Astia, Kodak E100G and Tri-x 320, Tmax-400 and Ilford FP4+.
I briefly entertained the idea of building my own wooden 4x5 view camera and even built a few prototypes but, recently broke down and bought a slightly used Omega 45F kit with 210mm Geronar. The check's in the mail. I've been shooting a "slightly modified" Crown Graphic (please forgive me for I have sinned!) for a while and am really looking forward to the new Omega monorail with it's added capabilities. I've sold exactly one print in my entire life and never been published -- well, unless you want to count the HS yearbook.
Now, I guess I better get to the nitty gritty....
I tried Rodinal...but only once and, I swear, I didn't even inhale.
Actually, I've never dev'd in anything but D-76. Man, I need to get out once in a while.
