Hi all,

I've been hanging around here for a month or so, and thought it time to introduce myself (the natives seem friendly). My real name is Brad. I live in a sleeply little town about 60 miles East of "The City" of San Francisco and work a day job in the Silicon Valley that is in no way related to photography (well, at least not the **real** kind). I only dream of being able to feed my family as a photographer.

I'm now old enough to have experienced mid-life crisis in the first person and have been interested in photography since...well, I guess it has been since the fifth grade. My fifth and sixth grade teachers had built a small darkroom in the hallway outside their classrooms. Mr Yanish, Mr. Tauzel, if you're out there, you made a difference in my life. Thanks.

As a teen, I hung some tarps in the corner of the basement of my parents' house and called it a darkroom. Local economic conditions don't permit me the luxury of an in house darkroom anymore but, I still try to slosh my own B&W films when time permits. I take most of my stuff to a local lab for processing.

I'm an equipment junkie, and I have a growing interest in old books on the subject of photography. My current films of choise are: Fuji Astia, Kodak E100G and Tri-x 320, Tmax-400 and Ilford FP4+.
I briefly entertained the idea of building my own wooden 4x5 view camera and even built a few prototypes but, recently broke down and bought a slightly used Omega 45F kit with 210mm Geronar. The check's in the mail. I've been shooting a "slightly modified" Crown Graphic (please forgive me for I have sinned!) for a while and am really looking forward to the new Omega monorail with it's added capabilities. I've sold exactly one print in my entire life and never been published -- well, unless you want to count the HS yearbook.

Now, I guess I better get to the nitty gritty....
I tried Rodinal...but only once and, I swear, I didn't even inhale.
Actually, I've never dev'd in anything but D-76. Man, I need to get out once in a while.

So that's who you are...

Equipmentoholics seem to be thick on the ground here. I may be one of the worst, with 5 LF cameras, 8 MFs and 4 TFs. And I've lost count of the LF lenses - I think I brought 12 to a recent meeting...

I haven't used D-76 in a very long time. No wait - I used some ID-11 just last year!

Welcome Brad

Lucius or Luke - feeling the pain of a burgeoning collection of cameras as well. I even get a free one for my 20+ years of civil service. I choose the Olympus Trip. Another in my pocket for what ever comes up situations or to donate to a family member who wants a camera. I am in Minnesota.

Welcome Brad!
Sounds like you've got the bug!!! Now about that Rodinal.... :D

Try inhaling! Nice feeling! When you are ready, try injecting the stuff! Start with 1+100 and move up slowly until you hit pure concentrated Rodinal! Then you're addicted and quite well developed

I Brad, from someone just up 680 from you. You're surrounded by apuggers in the bay area. Welcome to apug

Hey, Brad. Another SFBA recent APUG convert here, hailing from San Jose.

From my experience, the only benefit to growing old is that one has had more time to accumulate the toys, er, I mean tools, of the trade.

welcome from ferndale -- home of...

Hi , and thanks. I lived five years in Canton and read for a PhD in Applied Math at O.U. in Rochester. Worked for the big company in Dearborn for a while too.

Hi Luke,

Grew up accross the river in the burbs. Still have an older Olympus infinity that a family member donated many years ago. Great lens for 35mm p&s. A little to big for a pocket but, a great harsh environment companion. The film compartment is sealed with a big o-ring!

Hey Ole,

My wife just informed me that the next camera I buy will need to be big enough to live in. ...so, It's back on the wagon for a while.

Hi Brad, apologies for the belated welcome. I live in Concord, just up the road from you. I take 680 every morning on my daily commute to and from Mountain View. Wicked commute but great job

Try Highway 4, or not!

I'm east of you on 4.
It won't get you where you want to go, and it's an awful commute also!
Please think about bringing cameras out toward me in Antioch some sunny weekend. There are not-very-challenging trails at Black Diamond Mines, and, being very new to this, I'd like to learn in person! Or maybe Mt. Diablo? Or anywhere I could tag along? It's neat to find so many of you nearer than I knew, as well as finding connections with others so distant- it's a small world!

lol, I'm your neighbor on 4. Just of Bailey near the Bart station. I love the Black Diamond mines. MikeK has another place in Walnut Creek he likes.
