Hello folks. I thought I should probably post here so I don't feel like I am just lurking about all the time.

My name is Ben and I am from Iowa. I had a photography class in high school that I really enjoyed but I didn't pursue film photography after that, even though it had been lingering in my brain since then. Not long ago found a listing for a bunch of darkroom stuff on craigslist. I figured it was a sign. I now have a a good amount of darkroom gear and small collection of cameras.

I am looking forward to learning stuff from all of you here. I am curious if there are any sort of Iowa groups or sub-forums on here. I have looked but didn't find any.

I could probably ramble on at random for much longer but I think I will stop this here.

Thanks!

Edit : On top of being curious about Iowa groups/ sub-forums I should also ask if there are any particular posts I should read or any resources I should know about. Thanks again!

Read, and then DO. At least for me, its the doing that makes it stick in my brain. Welcome to APUG!

Welcome.. I have family that lives in Burlington and surrounding area.

Greetings! If you're even in the DSM area, give me a heads-up!

Welcome to APUG, Ben. Lord, there are scads of resources both here on APUG and elsewhere. Two I would definitely check out would be the Massive Dev Chart and also the articles we have here on APUG.

Welcome to APUG, Ben. I have family and a close friend in Iowa.

Welcome, from Iowa. I live in Cedar Rapids and work in Iowa City. If you get out this way you'll want to check out Photo Pro and University Camera. Alas, Camera Land in Burlington closed its doors November 2014.

I actually hit up University Camera last weekend and Photo Pro a week or so before that. I got some pretty good deals at both places. It's amazing how cool people can be if you actually try talking to them.

I have never heard of Camera Land. I did live pretty close to a Porters but as you know.. They are also gone.

Hi Ben,

If you might be looking for ideas about how to create a small darkroom in which to use your new-found Craigslist gems, consider taking a look through the following two iconic APUG threads:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

1,417 combined posts and 427,000+ views since December of 2004 means there are a LOT of good ideas covering almost every conceivable darkroom-building problem or constraint. Lots and lots of illustrating pictures, too.

Well worth a look, even if only for inspiration.
