As a means of introduction, I am Harold Wingo and I live in a designated wilderness area of Alaska (which officially means we are far more remote than living in the bush). I live on an Island in the Pacific Ocean, 120 miles from the main land. The name of our Island is Prince of Wales. We get mail by a tiny float plane (weather permiting) and the tiny planes are our only fast means of transportation to and from the Island. For the last year my phoptographic interests have been focused on Large Format though I have previous experience with MF and 35mm.

Welcome Harold from your neighbor to the south; Hawaii. Looking forward to seeing some of your images in the gallery, and looking forward to seeing you participate in the threads; you will love it here.

Hi Harold,

Your introduction title sure caught my eye. I've never been to Southeast (that's southeast AK for the rest of you), but it seems like a wonderful area and I hope you are exercising your camera.

Good Morning, Harold,

I've been wondering if we'd see you here sometime. I've enjoyed your photos and postings on the f32 site. My sympathy for the problems on your recent trip.

Oh, yes--welcome from southern Illinois!

Welcome from an island in the Chesapeake Bay! I worked in Alaska in college - I love it. Can't get the Mate interested in moving though.

Hi Harold! Good to see you over in these parts.

I also live on a small island, but it's not so far to the mainland.

Thanks for such a warm welcome!

Hi guys,

I had no idea that so many people visited the f32 site. Several of you I already know (Hi Ole and the rest of you guys).

It will take me for ever to get use to this format but over time I will learn.

The question has been asked, "How do you get on the internet?" referencing our living in a wilderness area. I have a Sat System. I use Starband Services and use a HUGE dish. Because we are so high on the globe, and because we have to point our dish so low to the souther horizon, it is necessary for us to use larger than normal Sat Dishes (to include TV if you want consistant service).

The area in which I live has no "hard-wire" phone communication . . . we use *tellular* (not cellular and not conventional phones but something similar to MARS Station Communication.

Thanks again for making me feel so welcome.

THAT is TOO cool!!

You'll need to send us some quick pix of the area so I get a image of what your place looks like. Never been to Alaska probably really beautiful.

Hi Guys!

Wow!! Everybody's here. I didn't really know about this site until Lee posted my AAR for Germany on this site and informed me of his post.

How do I change my profile? Everyone has their location by their name and I don't. Lee, I use to live in Texas, more specifically, Ft. Hood and I was proud to so say "I live in Texas" but now that I live in a wild, wild wilderness I am equally proud, if not more, to say I live in Alaska. So I want my AO (Area of Operation) to be listed by my name.

Hi Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the hello. Regarding us sending you snow and good photo ops, I am glad that we could be of service.

Though it has been a little cold lately, we are below average for snow so you guys are getting hit harder than us in my area.

Sitka

Ah yes! My "almost" immediate neighbor Island to the north of me. I've been to your island only once and I was very surprised. It looked like any medium sized town with all the "frills & fancies". Stores, airport on land with jet landings, pretty homes, nice places to eat . . . civilized. Very un-like my primitive neck of the woods. I enjoyed my short stay in Sitka.

Well welcome to the Forum and thanks for the note.

Hay Harold; welcome aboard from just a tad south of you. I'm on the north coast of BC, at the head of a channel 60 miles inland. Pacific moisture / inland temperatures translate to HEINOUSLY wild and variable weather...your rock must get even weirder!!

You, like me, must have never met another photographer out in the field...bliss...
