Green stain on carpet!

In the bathroom, at the location where I mix my chemicals, there has appeared a green stain on the carpet.

Could it have been caused by photo chemicals? It seems to have appeared over time. I used mostly B&W chemistry though I did experiment with an RA4 kit some months ago.

Any idea of how to get rid of it? It doesn't want to come out with regular soap and water.

And... no, getting a new carpet is not an option.

Possibly, not sure what would cause green but photo-chemicals & carpets don't mix.

Your best bet is trying proper carpet shampoo/cleaner.

Make-up can and does stain carpets, so that's another possibility.

You could add varying intensities of its opposite colors in order to subtract the green out.

Some developers turn green with age due to the developing agents they use. In particular, hydroquinone was a component of green ink and HQs in genereral turn green including some developers that use glycin.

They are usually notable due to their peculiar odor though. So, if it is from a developer, what is the odor?

Also, what else have you been using? Copper bleaches, Toners? You could help us by letting us know what else you use.

RA developer will turn green briefly but then revert to straw colored under some conditions. However, the color developing agent could possibly react with a dye in the carpet to give a new dye. The color is anyones guess.

Probably any of the standard 3: dev, stop, and/or fix. Most all of these will probably wash out with water. However I can't guarantee you'll get the original color back.

Unfortunately if it's any of those it's highly unlikely to wash out, they don't fully wash out of my lab-coats, jeans etc.

Stop-bath washes out pretty readily. I had spilled some on carpet before (which btw, has that green look to it) and it was easily steam cleaned out.

Fresh maybe, but well used will give yo developer stains

Try some sort of oxidizing cleaner. Should do the trick. Follow up with some Formula 409 just in case ot might be mold. To be safe.

There is probably some reaction between something and the dye in the carpet, there are lots of chemicals that are used in bathrooms, including many perfumed soaps, makeup, makeup remover, etc. Any of these can contain something that would react with the dye to create a green colour.

The best thing to do, is remove the carpet and use a hard flooring, sheet flooring works the best for bathrooms really. If there are problems with a cold floor, then you can put down a bathroom area rug, make sure you buy ones that can be machine washed and dried. Get two and then you can switch them every few days to eliminate the chances of mould and mildew growing on them. Cleaning up chemical spills is much easier on a hard floor, so when mixing chemicals, just push the rug into a corner or take it out, until your done.

Well, whatever it was, it's gone now. By yesterday evening it seemed to have spread quite wide, but a bar of soap and about half an hour of hard scrubbing did the trick. It's strange though, that it first appeared when we had the carpet cleaned. (I've begun to suspect a spillage of cleaning chemicals, not photo chemicals. Toilet duck?)

Keep a bottle of Oxi-Clean handy. Works wonders on carpet stains.

Yes. I had to live with one for 7 years in a flat. Open plan kitchen/livingroom situtation and they never decided to end the carpet and put down some lino or something for the kitchen. Lemme tell ya, flour is not a fun thing to get out of carpet. Especially if something then spills on top and you get paste. Ugh.
Once we moved out they allegedly replaced all the carpet with laminate flooring.

Makes sense, I would never intentionally put carpet anywhere, it doesn't last, it's hard to clean, and it tends to trap dust and allergens. Much better is an area rug, that you can roll up and send out for cleaning every couple of years.

When we moved to our current abode, the first thing I did was to rip up the carpet in the kitchen - which was glued down to solid maple flooring! It had lived through three kids and two dogs and had... considerable personality.
