Hello everyone,
this is my first post and hope I'm writing in the right section and hope you will understand my English too, as I write from Italy
I'm wondering if any of you have information about a Graflock type 6x6 roll film back for 6x9 cameras. I own a 6x9/6x7 Silvestri and was looking for a roll film back with square format.
I've seen auctions about old 6x6 roll film back for 4x5" cameras, and was wondering if these film backs were ever produced for 6x9 cameras in the US or Canada, or elsewhere.
It is almost impossible getting this kind of information in Italy, so I thought I could ask here.
Thank you all in advance!

A Graflex 22 or RH12 is exactly what you want. These were made in 2x3 and 4x5 sizes, to fit the corresponding size Graflok backs. They take 120 film, have a mechanical frame counter, and were made in large enough numbers that they aren't too expensive (especially the older 22 model, with knob advance vs. the RH12 with lever advance).

I have a 22 that I've used on both my RB67 (which has a 2x3 Graflok compatible back) and my Century Graphic (which has a genuine Graflok with removable focusing panel).

I have a 6X6 back for a 6X9 Speed Graphic, it did not come with a mask for the optical viewfinder that matched the rangefinder, I had to make one out of cardboard and use tape to hold it in place. If I used more often I would have mask made out of metal that could clip one.

Thank you very much! I thought there must have been something like this but I have never seen one listed on eBay or other auction sites, probably because of where I'm located. I see in a post below there's one listed in the US, I'll go and have a look. Thanks again!

Thank you very much, Dan. I do not see this auction on my eBay ( country limitations? Don't know ) but I'll try to get in touch with the seller and see if he can ship oversea. Thanks again!

Thank you, that confirms what said above

I also have one of the 22's. A word of warning, on mine, the plate to film plane distance is not the same as for my 6X9 Graflok, so images that are in focus with the 6X9 are out of focus with the 22. I've no idea if that's normal.

I haven't yet processed film from mine shot on my Century (all Bakelite 2x3 Crown, effectively), but I have done on my RB67 and the images were perfectly focused, just like those from my 6x7 and 6x4.5 Mamiya backs. Seems as though there may be a fault with your 22.

Could yours be set up with the appropriate Mamiya (rotating?) adapter taken into account?

The RB67 has its Graflok mount on the rotating adapter, so if the Mamiya film backs focus correctly (and they do, of course), any other Graflok-compatible accessory will if it has the correct film plane position. If the rotating adapter is removed, there's no Graflok mount (the only reason I know to do this is to mount the Polaroid pack film back).

Without the rotating adapter you can also attach a P-adapter and use the backs of the Press cameras. And, more important, you have enough room to build an Instax back with a dark slide. There are some Instax square backs now.

That's true, I remembered that right after hitting "post" on that last reply. If you have a P adapter, however, the Mamiya Press backs should match film plane to the ground glass -- and you wouldn't be able to mount Graflok accessories like a 22 or 23 (or RH12, RH10, or RH8).

Is it possible that you have a modified slr ( graflex back ) style film holder ? Ive seen many over the years that have been trimmed to fit a graflok back, but are .80 mm difference than the mainstreamed graphic style holders.

Yes, that is possible. On careful inspection the back looks like a hack job and measurement shows that the distance from the film plane to the flat back is non-standard. Oh well, don't use it any way and the 6X9 works perfectly.
