Just acquiered graflex series b, just to make small(comparing to 8x10) portraits, but I have troubles removing darkslide when back is in vertical position, not enought space for fingers to grab… I like the camera but i need it only for vertical shots… is it any better with bag mag,or graflock conversion?

How about using a piece of string (or a leather strap) tied through the center handle on the darkslide?

That was my first idea, it works, but I fear: 1)to brake darkslide by applying wrong angle;2) to accidentaly remove darkslide while it is not in camera

You know, I hadn't noticed how much of a pain that is. Haven't used my RB 3x4 with film either, so.... What size is your Graflex? The Grafmatic might make things easier, if you've got a 2x3 or a 4x5.

Alternatively, I don't think a leather strip or a hook would unduly strain the darkslides.

I think I just rotated the back so the darkslide faces down and it's easier to access. It's been a while, though.

4x5, for grafmatic I need graflock conversion, alteast internet says that no grafmatic back was made for glaflock back, so why I ask if with bag mag or conversion is any better

Yes, in horizontal position is easy, but I just don't like the idea to turn it every time I need to make a shot...

According to graflex.org, and the official service manual for the Grafmatic 45, there is both a Grafmatic 45 for Graflok backs ("Graphic") and for Graflex backs.

I admit, they're pretty rare.

I always get mixed up which Graphmatic is which and I can’t remember where I put my two Graphmatics to check my model number.
I think the 1268 is for Graflok, the models I have, back and 1168 is for Graflex back.
The 1168 one is the hard one to find and I don’t think they all had the model number on them.

I bought my 4"x5" Graflex Model D and Pacemaker Speed Graphic from a retired Graflex and Graphic repairman, he built a plate to convert the rotating Graflex back to take Graphic backs. He mounted the plate on the Graflex. At the time it was cheaper to pay him build it than it was to buy one.

The repair guide lists the 1168 as the "early" version-- but doesn't specify the back. Like you, I thought it was the Graflex back version.

No - I mean turn it to upside-down and pull the darkslide out downward. I'm not talking about landscape.

Thanks to everyone, will keep my eye's open for grafmatic holder.
To not start a new thread, is it possible to mount 10inch Tele-optar on 4x5 rb series b camera? Everywhere is listed to cover, but graflex brochure indicates 15inch as appropriate model, but do they have the same thread mount? 10inch is listed for 3.25x4.25 graflex, that is normally supplied with Kodak Anastigmat 6 inch. I don't care if I loose infinity focus, just wanna now if can simply unscrew Kodak lens and screw in Tele-optar.

I found that a longer lens on my Graflex would have the top of the image cut off [blocked] by the mirror stop when I used it in the Portrait format. It worked well in the landscape position. This is something to consider before buying a longer lens. You may find more detail at https://graflex.org/helpboard/ whihc is their forum.

wollensack specifies 6 inch circa as flange distance for infinity, for 10inch tele-optar, shorter than standard 7 inch Kodak Anastigmat, the question is about thread mount

If your camera is 3x4, then yes you need to convert it into a 4x5 back to use common 4x5 grafmatics. I don't think they ever made 3x4 grafmatics that uses the graflex 3x4 mount. If they did, it sounds really rare.

cool ok, so the Graflex mount 4x5 Grafmatic is a very pricey battlefield and any that shows on eBay are normally swooped within the hour. They are very hard to get.

If you want to get the easier to find get Graflok/Graphic Mounted 4x5 Grafmatic, they are cheaper and common. You can message Graflexparts Graham or John Minnicks down in Florida to install and convert the back for you without raising the ground glass. Make sure you ask for a schedule thou because their labor is in high demand.

I know there are 3d printed solutions but when I saw one break at a polaroid meetup in San Fran on their graflex, I think Metal is the only way to go.

Unfortunately I'm in Europe, so it would be cheaper to overpay for graflex grafmatic...

Anyone like SKgrimes but in europe? There has to be a quality machinist somewhere. SKgrimes here in USA they have manufactured spring backs for Graflex cameras. I wonder if you can ask them to replicate one so you can install yourself.

Having a international back, spring back or graflok back installed to use modern unslotted film holders will not help. You will still have difficulty removing the dark slide, the distance between the body and film holder does not change. Don't waste your time or money. Look for a bag magazine instead of the grafmatic. They are old and you might need to contact a tailor to make a new leather pouch. They work better than any grafmatic you will buy. 1 moving part, grafmatic backs are a waste, they break, get jammed and they have the wheel so all your exposures are spoiled.
Just use a key or coin to loosen the dark slide. Hardware stores have blank keys if you don't have one, I can't help you with the coin I have numismaphobia.
