There could be finger prints or traces of blood.
After 35 years they'd be very lucky to get a print with the amount of times it's been handled , assuming the murderer didn't just lob it in the canal .
There could be a chance blood could have got under the leatherette , there was plenty of hers apparently , no saying if the murderer left anything on it .

I doubt the camera has any real evidence on it. On the other hand, if the provenance of the camera can be established, it may lead back to the killer.

That article by Kosmo Foto is badly written.

For instance what does
"Police are asking me to check the serial numbers of any OM-20 cameras they own." mean ?

The police would unlikely have asked Kosmo Foto, to check the OM-20's that are owned by the police. There would not be any anyway...
