Could be metal or dried pcs of lube? You were fortunate to get the lens unscrewed. I usually have to soak them for a few days in 99% rubbing alcohol, not the 91% stuff. Every tiny little bit of the dried lube has to be removed, then a very small drop your choice of lube. I assume you marked the threads on the helicoil threads so you can start them at the same place? If not, you're in for some fun.

You can ck the bellow for pin holes by taking the camera into a closet, closing the door, and shining a light inside the bellows. Or taking the camera outside on a sunny day w/ the back open, putting it tight against your eye, and seeing if you have a small light show, or a cave.

Question about the record ii…

I got one, and all literature points to the DOF dial being in feet, but I’m pretty sure by the “m” on my lens that the focus is Meters. It goes to 10 then infinity. I have seen pics of lenses that do say “feet” on them and they look like they go to 50ft. Can anyone confirm this?
Thank you!

If it goes from 10 to infinity, it's in meters. But if the DOF is on a dial (like pairs of marks by the focus scale) it doesn't matter what units are on your focus scale -- other than you have to learn to think in meters (I find it easy, but then I learned to switch back and forth in the 1970s).

do you put the load arrows right down the middle and stop?

For a red window camera like a Record II, it doesn't matter, as long as you don't get to the point of the "forward" arrows (which would put you too close to the film start and might fog your first frame). As long as you have a full turn or so on the takeup spool, so the film tension keeps the tab in the slot, you can close the back, open the window shutter (if present) and wind to frame 1. My own habit is to bring the crosswise arrows (sync mark for automatic advance) to the first roller in the camera back, just because it's easy to go far enough but not too far with that.
