I can't post a video but the drive unit is like a teeter totter. I didn't dig too deep, some sort of clutch. No solenoids just centrifugal.

I will try to post a video. I suppose YouTube? The whole thing is run from a 200 watt vacuum cleaner motor. It's amazing how much the gearing produces so much torque.

As indicated I am surprised that some belts actually run in parallel.

Have you found out how reversing is controlled? Did I understand you right: a friction coupling controls this? (The moment the clutch slips, switches are actuated.)
