I just developed a roll of Adox Ortho 25 120 size in Rodinal 1+50 using the same process I always use. I have done this film before but in 135 and had no issues. When I pulled this film out of the Photo Flo, it was so slippery I could hardly hold it. I hung it up and realized there was thick slime all over one side of the film. I didn't know whether to leave it or get it off, so I took a squeegee and tried to remove it. I then put it back in the Photo Flo bath and squeegeed with my fingers. The film seemed to dry OK and I was able to scan it with no apparent defects. Does anyone know if this is normal or what it is? I did a search but couldn't find much on Adox Ortho.

I guess it must just be a fluke.

ADOX Ortho 25 120 film is coated onto a clear base and has an anti halation layer on the backside. This layer is made of gelatine and dies.
The 35 mm Film does not have this layer on the back, so if you expirienced a slippery backside on the medium format film but not on the 35mm film this is normal. However I do not understand the words "goof" and "fluke".

Is this still a problem we need to look into ?

Did the emulsion swell noticeably ?

Kind regards,

Mirko

I think the ADOX and EFKE emulsions are the same.

Check out this thread on another site: http://photo.net/black-and-white-photo-film-processing-forum/00QouJ

I have had the "goop" on EFKE film myself (never used 135, just 127), but it dries crystal clear and hard overnight. I haven't yet had the chance to see if the hardening fixer and HCA will help.

My experience with the EFKE film is that it is a non-issue if you just let it dry, but that's only from three rolls.

Hi Mirko,

By "goop" I mean a gooey substance, gelatin in appearance. It did not appear that it was going to dry clear, so that's why I removed it. Perhaps it should have been left alone, but it did not look to be uniform on the film and therefore seemed as though it would cause problems after the film dried. I wouldn't know how to tell if the emulsion swelled or not.

I don't think it's a big deal, I was just wondering. I really like the results I got with the film and would like to try more, but Freestyle doesn't have it. They only have 35mm in 10m rolls which I don't need but I'm buying anyway. I'd love to have it in 35mm.

Thanks,
Nick
