What’s a good small flash to use with an M2?

I used a Nikon SB-E on my other Leica but it doesn’t have a PC sync port and won’t work with the M2.

I am looking for something simple and small. No rotating head etc for bounce flash. Just a simple small flash unit.

thanks!

Lots of the old Vivitars had a sync port. They made some small ones that weren't too powerful but they get the job done. You need to get the right sync cord for them though, so if you buy one make sure the sync cord comes with it. Otherwise Metz made some lower profile flashes that had more power. I have one that I think is a BC that is small but it doesn't have a thyristor so the recycle time is longer. I use the little Metz when I want a flash on my Hexar RF. If you get one of the regular Metz's then you can change out the module to fit other cameras. I have another Metz, a CT-7 I think that is larger but usable on a rangefinder. Flashes that project forward rather than up balance better on rangefinders.

Hope that helps you.

The hot shoe adapter works well. Just over 5/8" tall and roughly a square about the size of your accessory shoe.

An old Canonet 'D' Flash is pretty minimum, quite strong, but you'll need a cold/hot shoe adapter with a pc cord, or, try out a Sunpac, like the MX 124, which very adjustable and has a thin pc cord.

The Sunpack is a flat affair, and there are several flash units in that brand that look similar, so you'll have a choice, and enough power for your photo adventures.

The pc cord press fits in a 'U' shaped channel on the side of the unit, but personally, if I could, I'd change that cord out with a heavier line, perhaps even shielded speaker line.

I like the Sunpak for use with my Minolta TLR, as it folds flat along the camera's side and does no have an intrusive 'head', which makes it a perfect small carry.

IMO
