Shopping for a good cable release for the 'Blad for landscape photography. What would you recommend for a quality product? I looked at a few at my local camera store. There were three models, all store branded, ranging from price from $4.99 - $20.99. They all seemed very cheesily (is that a word?) made, probably made by child prisoners in some 3rd world $**thole. I remember seeing a thread on APUG discussing cable releases but I cannot for the life of me find it . . . the search functions do not seem to work well for me.

Thanks!

I think you are on the right track. I have an 18 inch release for my Hasselblad (and anything else I need one for) and I have no idea, off hand, who made it.Maybe Hasselblad. I do know it is well made and works smoothly. I have learned NOT to buy cheap junk as they will let you down when you need them most. I would rather have a good used $20.00 one than a brand new $8.00 that is not well made and not smooth. If you buy a cheap one, get two. You will need the back-up.......Regards!

I like the Gepe cloth covered cable releases. They are very flexible and I like the locks on them. It may not matter to you but they are also "long throw". You need long throw cable releases for tripping old large format shutters like the Ilex shutters my Commercial Ekter and Red Dot Artars are in.

Anyway, they work great for medium format or 35mm cameras too and come in various lengths.
