Hi Everybody!

I got from a friend, approx. 300 glass plate negatives and
positives from 1870 to i guess 1914. The motives are
from Swizz, Germany (for ex. Oktoberfest 1870), Italy,
Austria, USA (for ex. Missippi ship indoor photo).
I should sell these glass plates in good condition.

And now my question: Does anyone have an idea
to whom I can offer this collection. I personaly would
like to sell this to an collector, because i think some of
these photos are also historical relevant.

I thank you in advance for your answer!

Best Regards from Austria

Servus Jean,
perhaps this is an open door suggestion, but have you considered selling them on eBay? Or is this a polite & covert attempt on your side to sell this collection to someone on this forum? If so, I would suggest you register as a Subscriber, pay some cash and put up an add in the sales department of Seans toko  - For our part, I can only say we sometimes buy old glass negs, but only if they're a bargain AND I can lay my eyes + hands on them in real life AND I really like them. But I haven't got the slightest *** if there are any real collectors of this stuff on this forum.

Hope this helps.

Tschüss,

jean -

i at one point had about 100 +/- glass positives in a box that came with a camera i bought years ago. they were what was known as magic lantern slides and were used for giving visual demonstrations ( modernish equiv = film strip ). i scoured the internet for a group that had an interest in the subject matter presented in the slides and put a simple classified ad in the classified area and within a few months the whole collection was sold. as a result the camera, case, plate holders + lens cost me less than nothing

since your subjects are so varied - i would advise making scans of typical images and try to sell the whole lot on FEEbay. depending on the condition you can charge between 1-3$USD for each slide, and a collector will take them all off your hands ( the ones in good condition and bad ).

good luck!
john

Ah, excellent. We'll all be here waiting for the results! Good luck scanning, it's always more work than there is time for...

There is a guy I knew that could be seriously interested. He is called Harry Giakoumis and works at the Musee D'Orsay in Paris. I am afraid I don't have his number anymore, but I guess that if you call the Musee D'Orsay they will help you get in touch.

As promised.. - Teaser *g*

Hi Everybody!

Here now - 2 Scans of the Glass Plates (approx 1870-1885)..

Jeane Andre, one of my state granted projects concerns archiving (and rephotographing) Upper Mississippi River material. We would be very interested in anything you might have relating to the Mississippi.
