Magnum photographer Gilles Peress has just released a new book ("Whatever You Say, Say Nothing," Steidl, 3 volumes, 1,960 pp.) of his pictures of Northern Ireland taken from 1971 to 2006, I'm a big Peress fan, including his " Telex Iran" and "The Graves: Srebrenica and Vukovar". The new volumes are sure to be a major blockbuster in the annals of photojournalism. Only problem is the cost; $480.00.

You can read a full review in the New York Review of Books, March 10.

Thanks for the tip. I am also a big fan of Peress.

I've been eyeing the book since it was released, but $500 is quite steep. Steidl seems to be pricing some of their recent releases in the stratosphere, like the recent Eggleston set and the Mary Ellen Mark box, which was reasonable when first released and then they jacked the price way up.

This book must be aimed at institutions like libraries and schools. Too expensive for the common man. I did meet Mary Ellen Mark once when I asked her to donate a print to a fund raiser-auction. She gave me a nice picture that sold very well. Wonderful woman.
