[QUOTE="JBrunner, post: 2386379, member: 9401". When a troll posts, please report it instead of responding to the troll. This is a useful thread, let's please keep it on the rails. Thanks all.

I agree but the problem with the amount of disinformation surrounding the whole subject of Covid and now vaccination is that until we get answers from said person I really can't cast a verdict as whether the person in question is disinforming deliberately or has seen what I imagine is a plethora of cleverly disguised disinformation that has been believed. It's the old story: Is the person part of the problem of disinformation or someone who can be and deserves to be disabused of it?

pentaxuser[/QUOTE]

If it is going to send things off the rails, as responding that bit of baloney was sure to, just please report it. You aren't going to fix stupid on an internet forum. I may have to delete my response here as off topic, so... Ill trust you guys to keep this running smoothly

I joined the Pfizer vaccine trials last year. Got 2 jabs of ? (vaccine or placebo?). There are still many trials looking for participants. At this point, I believe you are guaranteed the actual vaccine if you are willing to be part of the research. If you really want the vaccine asap, please consider participating in these trials.

From what I can tell in the Los Angeles area, except for the fire department and Kendren, the place giving the first shot automatically schedules the second shot. Kendren did not and possible still does not schedule the second shot. Many of the ones who got the first shot either could not get the second shot scheduled or assumed that since the card said when they should get the second shot meant that they had an appointment when they did not. All of this led to confusion and near chaos when some new uninformed volunteers started passing around clipboards asking for information that was on the reservation forms. The volunteers refused to listen to me when I told them that I had put that up to date on the form in the website. Then they ran out of forms. At that point people with reservations sent the new volunteers back to get properly instructed. Experienced volunteers came out and straighten out the mess by sorting out the two groups and announcing that everyone would get a shot.

I'm not aware of any State which isn't regulating and prioritizing. To which States are you referring?
I absolutely am NOT wanting to politicize this discussion. The analysis I read broke the states down into the 'conservative' vs. the 'other' (I forget the terminology actually used.
In general (I paraphrase), Group 1 was poorer at control of COVID spread, while Group 2 was poorer at getting vaccine into arms...there were exception states to BOTH generalizations.

    • No COVID-19 vaccine contains cells from aborted fetuses.
    • A replica cell line from a fetus aborted in 1973 was used to develop the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine. However, the vaccine itself does not contain fetal cells.
    • New mRNA vaccines, such as those being developed by Pfizer and Moderna, are synthetic vaccines, sequenced on a computer in a lab, and do not use fetal cell lines in their production.

Your summary is correct, but I would add, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines were validated and tested using the same cell lines that AstraZeneca used to reproduce the virus for their vaccine. This cell line is a standard tool in modern biomedical science (as it is widespread, validated, known, etc.).

Ours in Australia started getting rolled out this week. Priority people first then working down to the rest of the population.
Theres no community spread here, so no panic everyone will get their dose.
Should be done and dusted by the end of the year.
Be my first vaccine since having the Polio and small pox vaccines when I was a boy.

This was much better handled in Australia than in the US.

I had my second Moderna shot on Feb. 12. Other than a little soreness where the shot was done, no other side effects, so I'm fortunate.

We personally know only one person so far, who was given both doses of Moderna...in his 40's, as a healthcare provider, he did have symptoms of considerable fatigue for a day.

Someone in my family had both (Moderna) and got the same reaction. Another had their first Pfizer shot with no issues.

My dental hygienest had heart problems for a few days immediately after one (I think the second Pfizer) and a relative in Germany ended up in the hospital with heart problems after the first Moderna. In the German case, there was a pre-existing issue that was ignored, and it is possible the vaccine pushed it over the edge (it is possible it was a coincidence also).

I know the topic is vaccination with Moderna in SoCal, but I thought I would contrast that information with what has been occurring in Norcal, in the SF Bay area
  • Most vaccinations done by Stanford Health and by Sutter Health have been the Pfizer vaccine. When you show up for the first dose, they make an appointment immediately (before you leave) and write the vaccine type and your 2nd appointment on the white card, which you present for your 2nd dose.
  • County administered vaccine events have been with the Moderna vaccine, When you show up for the first dose, they make an appointment immediately (before you leave) and write the vaccine type and your 2nd appointment on the white card, which you present for your 2nd dose.
  • There have been patients who have gotten their first vaccine and they have gotten Moderna, but they are not given an appointment for 2nd dose, Instead, these people are left uncertain, and told, "We will send you an email before your 2nd dose"; and a few days before the 2nd dose they are sent an email.
  • Until recently, Kaiser covers 25% of patients in CA, but the state had totally underallocated doses to them (only 40k each week statewide!). So Kaiser had done little except healthcare workers...over-75yo were simply emailed, "We will email you when it is possible for you to schedule an appointment". Only within the past week did my 96yo mother get her email telling her she could schedule with Kaiser...but we had already gotten her first shot thru a different Healthcare service, due to inept vaccine distribution to providers.!

Thank you for your observations. Kendren and the LAFD did not set up second vaccine appointments which cause major problems.

Up here, the folks who were NOT given 2nd appointments in advance were given a white card which showed they received Pfizer but no 2nd appt date.
Yet when they logged into the web site of the provider overseeing that session, that database said that numerous patients were given Moderna! They finally got their 'paperwork' straightened out so the electronic data matched the white cards given out  The guilty shall remain unnamed.

I received my 1st shot of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday. About 8 hours of slight headache, fever, and general feeling off--not enough even to take any aspiring. My arm was sore--got worse for a while and is subsiding. Already scheduled for 2nd does.

I note that it is now 26 Feb and many days since I asked the person to substantiate his source of information. He has not done so. Indeed he appears to have said nothing since.

I have had to draw my own conclusions about basis of his intervention. If these are the wrong conclusions then it remains open to him to supply information

The vaccines were developed from
  • virus DNA
  • virus RNA
  • live virus
  • dead virus
Just like all the other vaccines. Moderna is the first vaccine based on the attachment RNA. That is knowledge commonly known in many publications and known and understood by educated people. Conspiracy theorists make up other origins to promulgate lies to prop up their ideas that cannot be accepted on their own by educated people. It is a matter of education no myths and fold tales.

My wife and I just got our second Moderna shot today. Here in Central New Jersey. The nurse told us they were out of shots going forward and taking no new appointments. Frankly, I feel safer now since I'm 76 with comorbidities. My wife's happy about it too. But she'd kill me if I mentioned her age.
My wife got a 100F fever the second day and was very tired along with the sore arm for three days. I only had the sore arm for about 3 days. We're both OK now. Feel lots safer although we still wear a mask and take the usual precautions.

FWIW - CVS in SoCal has a website where one can sign up (and get!) an appointment.

Now I have to get the round 3 of the Moderna when it becomes available. Hopefully it will be easier to get an appointment.

How is JB doing with his target of 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days? That is one heck of a schedule. The vaccination schedule is going pretty well in the U.K. but we haven't quite managed half a million a day yet and I doubt even ambitious Boris is really contemplating ever getting to a million a day

Thanks

The current stats say 68Million doses given so far and reaching about 13% of the US population (330Million),
21Million fully vaccinated representing 6.6% of population fully vaccinated.
Thanks for info. If it is 68 million then 100 million may be on the cards in the 100 days counting from January 20th.

New Mexico is doing a pretty good job, especially as it is not a wealthy state and with a low population. I believe we are now 14% vaccinated with at least one shot. I got mine by signing up on-line with state DOH. They notified me of my appointment and gave me a time, place and date, as well as for the second shot on 3/4. Arm was very sore the day after and the day after that I was not well but recovered by day 3. But I do think we are all in line for a third shot down the road.... and as they say, it's not over yet.

The real issue is that in the past month I had calculated that about 3.5 Million doses per day were needed to vaccinate 80% of the population by end of June, 3.5 times the 1 Million per day that was initially the goal. And that is compounded by the fact that 1/3 of the US population does not want the vaccine, so the 80% goal cannot be reached.
Darwinism and natural selection being exemplified?!

Health Canada has approved AstraZeneca. Should start rolling in next week....And hopefully the majority of those who want to be vaccinated will already have been jabbed by Autumn.
