Getting LYE in Canada

I finally found a source for LYE, all across Canada. Home Hardware carries it on their online store http://www.homehardware.ca . However they only deliver for pickup to one of their store locations. The great thing is there are no shipping costs. Just do a search for lye, and a package of 500g crystals shows up in the search.

Some more good news for someone....My email notification came in yesterday, so I went to go pick my order today. Long story being short, misplaced my box. They then asked if I would accept a bottle from the shelf. I almost peed myself. They have inventory.

If you are in or around Montreal, the store on 4855 Sherbrooke Street West has inventory now. They mentioned that I could get a bigger bottle if I wanted.

If it's sodium hydroxide you're looking for, you could also make friends with a brewer. Although these days, most breweries are using a so-called "built caustic" which comes from the chemical supplier already compounded with chelating agents (e.g. EDTA) and other oxidizing agents (could be chlorine compounds or other alkaline salts).

Great, if you know one. I do know a farmer who can get some, but 45 jb bags are a bit much along with the two hour drive. I do prefer legitimate sources.

Just saying'. Where I live, you can't fall down without hitting your head on a brewer. Canada is seeing a lot small breweries open up, Quebec included. If you knew a guy, he'd probably give you a pound (or get a sample from his supplier). I know I would, but I'm a little far afield for you. Anyway, moot point as it seems Home Hardware has you covered.
