German language group, in german language?

So what's the difference between that and the Krankenkasse?

Krankenkassen pay for the treatment when you are ill or have an accident in your private life. Berufsgenossenschaften pay if you are injured in an accident on the job. Krankenkassen fees are paid by employees and employers half by half. Berufsgenossenschaften fees are paid by the one who runs the shop as he causes the risk to get injured by the way he runs it.
Both institutions are part of our social security systen which includes insurance against unemployment and and the social pension fund. The whole system was established in 1883 by Reichskanzler Bismarck attendant of his Sozialistengesetze in 1878 where he tried to get rid of the socialists by prohibiting the Sozialdemokratische Partei and the trade unions. The idea was that by bettering the social situation of the workers a socialist party would get less attractive for the working poor. In this he was wrong but his social security system turned out to be an excellent idea.

As they don't seen to benefit from their work directly this questions is asked by some.
Handwerkskammern have the statutory supervision over the Innungen which take the technical task of organizing the apprenticeships and certification of masters. They in a way do all the paperwork involved in this. And they, beside other duties, protect the interests of the trades vs the state.
Most of their tasks are such that otherwise the state would have to care for them and must be paid for by taxes. Our society has decided, by appropriate legislation, to let the trades look after their own affairs but to take care that the job is done, thus the mandatory membership for all shop owners. In a way or the other it is done that way for about six hundred centuries or even more. May be besides the Christian churches Innungen and Handwerkskammern are the institutions with the longest tradition in Germany

Do you know where the Kunstlersozialkasse fits into all of this?

As I get it right the Künstlersozialkasse is state-subsidized to enable artists to get a health-insurance of their own adapted to their low income.
But you can also be health insured at a common Gesetzliche Krankenkasse with regards to a very low income. But in case of artists they likely will advise to apply for insurance at the Künstlersozialkasse.

I tried this today for the first time, and I am very impressed, it helps a lot.
