Hi all,

I hoping that someone can recommend a good distributor in Germany for film. I'd like to place an order from here in the U.S and have it shipped to a German address. I have no experience doing something like this and figured this would be the best place to ask.

Thanks in advance,

Ash

Price it out before you order. Unless you're particularly concerned about X-ray exposure or it's more than you can carry on a plane, it might be significantly less expensive to bring it with you, due to VAT that will be charged if you order it and have it delivered locally. If it's a lot, you may be able to get a VAT refund when you return to the US, but I've always thought that was more red tape than I wanted to deal with when traveling, unless I were planning to buy something really expensive.

Hi David,

I won't be traveling to Germany, at least for the next few months. The price for the film, VAT and shipping locally in Germany was not too far out of line, so I placed the order which I hope will arrive within a few days since it is kind of a time sensitive thing. The vendor (Maco Direct) stated 2 - 5 working days.

Thanks,

Ash

FOTOIMPEX (= ADOX) is a APUG sponsor...

Hi Philippe,

There didn't seem to be a way to directly order from FOTOIMPEX, at least that I could tell. Maco had a shopping cart type system that worked out well for me.

I used to order directly from FOTOIMPEX for delivery in New York without any difficulty, before they had a US distributor. I could always e-mail Mirko if I wanted something that wasn't on the website, and shipping was surprisingly quick. I just looked on the website, and the link for ordering from the website is on the top bar--"Shop."

I missed that. I went to the shop but my limited to non-existent German would have been a barrier. I'd probably order 6 thermometers and a cheeseburger or something by mistake.

phobatec.de is a good and very cheap address, used by many professionals but mostly with fast moving products from Ilford, Fuji and Kodak. They also have a lot of digital stuff. Same with www.gfh-foto.de (they call their shop "analogital"), but only in german language - a Tri-X is called Tri-X here, so it's no big deal to make a deal.
Fotoimpex has anything you can ever imagine, only analog products. Monochrom.com is somewhat similar, but they have a stronger focus on museum quality archiving and presentation.

I need to be careful since the person whom to whom this gift was sent is also an APUG member who will no doubt be scanning the forums later. Maco had exactly what I was looking for and it isn't a generally available film product as far as I know. I really appreciate all the help everyone has given me today... this is what makes APUG great.

Hello Ash,

I have ordered from Wolfgang Moersch before and had it sent to an address in Germany.

moersch-photochemie.com

You have the option to choose the website in english as well. Nice website to visit.
The products come with excellent instructions.

Don't forget fotomayr.de also good and relaible

Fotoimpex.de is a great shop, and I doubt you'll need much German to shop there.

There's an english section where it's possible you can order with just communication and not a cart system (alte webseite, english), but I suppose it's inactive, and now the shop is used in it's place.

Fotoimpex GmbH, Berlin.
Berlin to Zagreb (Croatia)is about 1200 km (700 miles).
1th order-objektive platine M39,2Xglass for 6x6 mask,weight about 0,15 kg, shipping charges was 27euro(40$)
2nd order-objektive platine M39 (for friend) weight 35 grams, shipping cost 26 euro (38 $). .They do not offer me cheaper delivery costs.
That is my experience with Fotoimpex GmbH,Berlin.Have a nice day.
