There appear to be Gepe "Pro" cable releases and then a standard steel cable release. Anyone know what makes the pro a pro? And when would it be good to have a PVC cable over a cloth one?

All three of my Gepe Pro releases are PVC coated with the Zeiss Disc locks. What sets them apart from my other cable releases (both metal and cloth covered) is that they have a longer "throw" or extension that can reliable fire double action shutters such as my Ilex Universals.

One more thing, my PVC coated Gepe Pro releases don't coil up as tightly as cloth or metal cable releases for storage.
Not a big deal for me, but YMMV.

If I could only have one cable release, it would be a Gepe Pro because that's what I've found that reliably fires all of the shutters in my glass menagerie, especially the double action ones. If you have older shutters like Universals, they're well worth the $$
If not, other cable releases should work fine.

What's a double-action lens?

With double action shutters, depressing the plunger both cocks and fires the shutter. These are also known as "press" shutters.
Single action shutters have to be manually cocked first, then the plunger is depressed to fire the shutter.
Just like revolvers.
