I don't know, John. I'm thinking about the experiment you propose and I disagree. But I do agree in principle that some non representational art is technically and creatively very challenging. I don't limit myself one way or the other. My photography is always representational, while my paintings are (currently) non representational.
It's not a question of genius or insanity, or of conforming to pictorial standards. I look at the images and feel... meh. However, they may appeal to others. Surely a lack of affinity for someone's work should not be deemed dismissive. Why so quick to judge work that doesn't conform to Pictorial Standards?
HE photography students?...those images in the OP are typical of thousands of images produced by HE photographic students about three years ago.
HE photography students?
I have no idea what "HE photography students" are.Your point is?
Some of the negatives you can see emulsion sliding off the base, others are very distorted street shots. It just seems to depend on state of that specific roll and how it was processed.
have at me people to get a pabaiga cover shot
I’m not surprised to see there are some dismissive remarks aimed at this person’s work, given the oft-narrow stylistic scope of work this community produces. Dismayed, but not surprised.
I'm curious: where do you draw the line between Gem and Junk? Pinhole imagery? Photograms? Kirlian photography? X-ray images? Collage? Why so quick to judge work that doesn't conform to Pictorial Standards?
Good lord, why would anyone make stuff if the goal isn't to make money??!! (*sarcasm*)
Maybe i do not understand what you are saying, but..........why would you be Dismayed or Surprised.?I’m not surprised to see there are some dismissive remarks aimed at this person’s work, given the oft-narrow stylistic scope of work this community produces. Dismayed, but not surprised.

They aren't pictures of anything (in most cases).Perhaps i am not looking close enough, but 95% of the photos......I can't even tell what they are a picture OF.
I was just wondering why the one or two members were surprised that Some/Many would not see the "worth" in photos like these.
