Indeed Ian. I meant "problem" from a visual standpoint.

Yes - I was agreeing with you, but adding that some get poor quality results from the same film/developer combinations that others use with superb results :D

There's a tendency to blame this or that developer for poor quality rather than nailing down technique.

Funnily enough, all my compositions are rotten whenever I use Rodinal.
Mind you, D76 and Caffenol have the same effect ... must try something else ...

I think it's a joke,

Like, "funny enough, whenever I aim a camera at something, the image always comes out bad, must get a new camera"

Ha, yes  Maybe because it's easier to blame developers..or film, and any given combination. I always tell anyone who asks about film and developers..keep it simple, pick one and stick to it long enough to make it work...then stay with it.

It is a poor craftsman who blames his tools.

Agreed, however if you have better tool you can do the job right. I always smile when people say "my camera takes good photos". I also smile when, or frown when people continuesly buy new or different equipment.
But with a decent rasp I can work a piece of wood better than with a old rusty rasp.
Certain "good" equipment may have a psychological effect on us to make us work better.
Personally I don't care about what developer I use, not at all, as long as it is the right one.:whistling:
